Security bag check warning items

I find it random. I can walk through 9 scanners with the exact same things on my bag and make it through and the 10th I'll get flagged.

The weird security line when we were there was EPCOT. All the other parks did secondary screening in a line - first there, first checked. EPCOT looked at the screen then pulled people out of the group for screening. I hoped they fixed that because it was pretty frustrating sitting and waiting while they screened people who hadn't been there nearly as long. Yeah, I know, just don't get pulled out for secondary screening. DW got zinged for her glasses case almost every time. I got pulled out for an umbrella I did not know had been switched to the bag I was carrying. Next time I'm putting all the nefarious items in a clear bag and pulling that out of the backpack as we go through screening.

My albuterol inhaler this past trip set it off! Granted ive carried the same inhaler in the last without any issues but this time it kept setting it off. Once we figured that out, i carried it out in front of me! Viola! No more security stop!

I've never had my glasses themselves flagged but they are always on my face or hanging around my neck so it might why. I've never been flagged but I always just pull my phone and charger out and hold them in one hand and my water bottle in the other, in front of me. If I have an umbrella, I'll hold it out as well. My son kept getting flagged and couldn't figure out why, one security guy told him it was his umbrella(s) which was in the backpack. They have a toddler in a stroller so now he just puts the umbrella(s) under the stroller and has no problems.

1) Fabric-type eyeglass case

2) Anker portable charger (1.5" x 3")

I'm carrying only a very small purse that will hold these items and I'd like to know if I should be grabbing either out to hold in front of me. (Which I've never heard before!)

If they eyeglass case does not have hinges on it, it will be fine.

2) Anker portable charger (1.5" x 3")

I'm carrying only a very small purse that will hold these items and I'd like to know if I should be grabbing either out to hold in front of me. (Which I've never heard before!)

We carried one like this in my backpack and it did not set off the detectors.

Yes, this can definitely cause it to go off. Take it out and hold it in your hand in front of you. I have the same one and it was hit or miss. It set it off once, didn’t set it off the previous times.

Do the magnetic shut eye glass cases set them off? My new sunglasses come in this tri-fold case that sticks shut based on magnets. Will that set them off? Had been using a cloth pouch but bought not so cheap sunglasses so I want to protect them more when they are not on my face.

I had an eyeglass case just like that, and yes, when I left it in my purse I was pulled out to have the contents of my purse inspected. So carry it in your hand when you walk through the scanner.

I would think there is a very good chance that it will set the security off. It would be best to remove them and hold them out for the security guard to see.

It is random we are finding. My daughter had Kleenex, lip gloss and a compact in her lululemon belt bag one time and was pulled aside at security. Another time she had the same items plus more in her belt bag and wasn’t stopped.

Suspect it’s not “random” so much as malfunctioning/badly calibrated machines. I had the same stuff one trip and was fine everywhere with multiple visits except TTC and MK.

I'm surprised so many people are saying phones. With rare exception, every single adult has a phone in their bag or pocket. We haven't taken ours out since they switched to the new system.

Android phones are far more likely to go off than Apple products.

I do seasonal work at our local concert venue and the most common culprits are: glasses case, umbrella, portable charger, two phones stacked on top of each other, tin. The sensor is programmed to recognize shapes, so those who wonder why they get flagged on some visits and not others - it could be because things are sitting against each other in your bag. If it "sees" what it thinks is one thick metal object, not recognizing a separate phone and charger, it will alert.

Our UV umbrella set it off, even when hand carried. DD takes no backpack and would hold it out in front of her, but still get pulled and wanded. It also set off scanners at Dollywood, but they would usually just wave her through. One of the security guards had her hold it backwards (handle away from her body), and that helped some.

One item that I don’t think has been mentioned yet is an ECV charging cord. I think it’s similar to the big battery backups on the scanners.

My glasses case always sets it off, and my battery sometimes does, so I hold them. My metal water bottle has never had an issue, full or empty.

In addition to my sunglasses case and charger, I have a few small lipglosses/chapsticks that are in tins. These seem to set off the machine about half the time. As someone mentioned, anything metal can be an issue, especially depending upon their position in your bag (which is why it flags only sometimes).

In addition to when your bag is flagged for an item, I believe they are also required to periodically due random checks.

I had a weird one this trip-I was sent for secondary screening of my purse, and security determined that it was just because I had PINS! I can't believe no one's been "caught" for that. I always bring about 10 pins in a zipper pocket in my purse, for trading. I've gone through security with this zipper pocket of pins at least 50 times over the years. But this time, it got flagged.
