Some attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood were closed today after a possible suicide at the park. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said an unidentified man fatally shot himself at about 2:15 PM near the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to the scene after reports of a medical emergency at 2:24 PM. The park remains open, but authorities cleared the area around the scene. No one else was reported hurt. Deputy Saldana of the Sheriff’s Department said detectives are on the scene and that the investigation “may take several hours.”

Never been to Universal Studios in Hollywood so I don't know what kind of security they have there. If its similar to the WDW bag check, all a person would need to do is just have it in a pocket or otherwise concealed under clothes.
