I am thinking about doing some "secret shopping". I recall from a couple of months back that some of you were doing it, but that post is gone now. Can anyone recommend a company that I can work with? Can you work with more than one company? Thanks!

You can do work for more than one company. The one I have had the most luck with is shop & check. Check out their web site - www.shopncheck.com. They have a place that you can click to get an application to sign up. I get shops from them every month. Hope that helps a little. Happy Shopping!

You might try www.gofeedback.com. Although I am registered with them I haven't shopped for them yet. They don't seem to have too many shops available in my area.

I looked at both those links and the second one was kind of creepy, asking for your SSN etc., and no matter what zip code I put in they claimed they needed shoppers. So is it a scam to get a bunch of info from people?

As for the first one, Pink Flamingo, can you describe what the shopping and payment process is like? I'm hoping they are trustworthy :)

I have thought about it as well. For those of you that are secret shoppers, what exactly is expected of you? I have found a company in my area, but I just haven't investigated it any further. Thanks.

J

The reason for the SS# is because you are being paid to secret shop. Most legit ones will ask for that. Also, just because they accept your zipcode, does not mean they always have shopping available in your area. It just means that there are companies in that zipcode that use their services and periodically may have shopping available.

I've shopped for several mystery shopping companies. I'll try give you some of the basic info. ]

Basically a mystery shopper is someone who goes in and shops at the given store (dept. store, gas station, restaurant, etc.) as if they were a regular customer. You are given a questionnaire with certain things that you have to evaluate. You are also usually given an assigned item to buy which you are reimbursed for. You are also paid a fee to do the shop & paperwork.

To get started, first, you fill out an application, some have on line applications & others will send you one in the mail. They do ask for a lot of personal info., just as if you were applying for a job anywhere else. I have not had a problem with any of the ones I have signed up for as far as using that info. for any other purpose.

Some companies will have shops in your area & others may not. I get shops monthly from shop n check, but the other companies I have signed up for I just get shop every once in a while - some only once or twice a year.

When a shop becomes available in your area they call or e-mail you & explain the details & pay. You then have the option of accepting or declining.

After you complete the shop you fill out the paperwork, in most cases it's a questionnaire & usually not too long.

After you submit the questionnaire, either by mail, phone, or e-mail you are done. You usually receive you pay check the following month.

You don't make a ton of money, but every little bit adds up.

I thinks that's answered all the questions on this thread so far. If I missed something or you have other questions just post & I'll reply asap.

Pink Flamingo

Thanks for the info. Do you enjoy it, and do you feel it is worth your time? I love to shop, and I think I would enjoy doing it. I love pointing out to cashiers and store managers when I have been overcharged :D , which happens ALL THE TIME :( . Don't know if I could do it with a full time job, though. Maybe on the weekends.

I've done some shops for Check Mark , they were pretty easy, and the pay checks did come through as promised. What I liked best about this company is that I could do everything right on line. I'm also signed up with Beyond Hello , but haven't actually shopped for them yet because everything is too far for me to go. They both seem to be pretty legit companies, though.
I think Pink Flamingo gave a pretty good explanation, at least based on my experience.
The # of shops available in my area is somewhat limited, and I have a full time job now, but this is a pretty easy way to make some extra money, and you get to go shopping, too!:D
Good luck to you if you decide to go ahead & try it.

J&D - Yes I do enjoy mystery shopping. I love to shop & it's especially nice to spend someone else's money, even though it's usually only $10 or less. One thing I didn't mention earlier - you do have to use your own money to pay for whatever you are assigned to shop for (at least with all the companies I've shopped for). You get a receipt & then the mystery shopping company reimburses you when they send your monthly check. I only accept the shops that I think will be worth my time. Typically I try to stay within a short driving distance from my home. If more money is offered I will drive further.

Perfectmatch300 & BuzzMe - I hadn't heard of the companies you mentioned. Thanks for that info.

Thanks Pink Flamingo, That's what I wondered, whether you had to use your own money and be reimbursed. For that it would really have to be a trustworthy company to make sure you get your money back in a timely fashion! How much do they usually pay in addition to just reimbursing your expenses?

Cheers :)

Pixie Dust - The amount you get varies, but here are some general figures:

Fast food: $4 to $7
Retail Shops: $7 to $20
Gas Shops: just reimbursed for what you pay for gas - usually asked to buy $5 worth of gas

As you can see, it's not a way to get rich quick, but it does help add to that Disney savings ºoº
