Secret Green Club - whatever number thread

Happy Anniversay, Kelly!

Brandi, Prayers coming your way. My son had this one time, early in our run on bone surgeries. Even scared the doc when He didn't wake up as usual and was sleeping 2 days afterwards. I am praying things go well for David.

Mary, sorry about the government closing issue. I hope it does get rectified quickly. And hope B gets out of the cast soon!

Not sure if I mentioned it, but Sat. is take down the wheelchair ramp day. It has been there for 20 years now, so poor thing is old. With Chip moved out & Bill gone, I don't need to repair it. Man, I hope someone with tools shows up! The city is on me about that and then I am sure they will want me to paint the house or side it. I know which one I prefer... bleah! And now the grass is much higher than it is suppose to be. Ah, the good & bad of Spring!!

Hang in there Brandi! Must be so scary for you! Keep us posted and I'll keep thinking good thoughts for you!

 Brandi. Please do update us here. Prays and Pixie dust coming your way!

Brandi, :grouphug: to you and your husband! That's really scary, I don't blame you for feeling rather freaked out by it. We'll be praying here that everything goes smoothly and he wakes up when expected!

:grouphug: Keep us posted!:grouphug:

Thanks everyone.... I knew I could not talk to his mom b/c then she would worry more, I could not talk to him, because he was already scared, and never the kids because they thing is a rock!!!!

David is out and awake. They gave him a lighter dose and told him that he would by groggy but only be out a short while and hey were prepared if he did wake up when he should. It was reassuring, and we where in a facility that could do something BUT you just don't like the feeling....

They took a couple of biopsy and we get the results in 10 days, but initial read and the pictures they took so SOOOOOO much better than last time, so the Drs are happy with the they the meds are working.

So he will continue on them and we have to do this again in two years:scared1:

Thanks for all the well hugs I needed them, at some point I will just let the frustration out with a good cry and feel better.

Had a class at my other building today. Came back to a big rally --- getting close again to the Gov possibly shutting down. :( Hope that doesn't happen.

Are state? or Fed? I know the state is impacted if the fed shutdowns....

So Friday is the big day right? David is covered until July, all of his funding has long been applied, so he is in good shape if the fed shuts down... I on the other hand have funding until the 29th...

just wish they could agree on something and move on and do more cuts later. This is one big dysfunctional family, will they ever really agree...NO

I think Jeff needs to learn to mow. Nick helps us mow. He is turning into a young man now and can help his mom more. Family fun day at Kat's house :teeth:

Brandi glad everything turned out good.
I do love that I can whip it out ( :teeth:) anywhere..
:teeth::rotfl:

I knew I forgot something dangit:headache:

Happy Anniversary to Kellydoodle and Big Daddy! Wishing you many happy more.:woohoo::banana::woohoo::banana:

Kat-- G/l with the dismantling. I agree with T, Jeff might actually like to mow.....atleast for a little while.

Brandi-- glad everything went well with the hubby. I work for SSA--we're federal. We won't know anything until sometime Friday how they will handle this. We will be furloughed as early as Saturday. They may call in essential personnel which we won't find out whether we are essential or not until Friday. I have a feeling that I won't be. I used to be but I started a new job 12/09 and I don't work any cases so I think I'm gonna probably be off. Not sure if they will pay us or not. In the past they furloughed everyone for the first week and called in essential personnel for the 2 & 3rd weeks. After it was over I believe everyone got paid because everyone was ready & willing to work. I just hope this doesn't mess up my trip. :headache:

We were deemed. Critical but the current funding only lasts thru the end of the month.

Oh hope that this does not effect your trip either.

I need to just put something out there for my my Limey friends. I am at an out patient surgery center this morning. They just took David back into the back room to have an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. You have to be put under for this because they put the tubes down your throat.

This the second one he has had in two years. They found pre cancer cells called Barretts disease last time. He has been on his meddle and we are not expecting bad news.

David's family has a history of aversion to the sedation, his grandfather died from being but under and David has had some bad effects, not waking up when he should from previous surgeries. He had a nightmare last night that he did not wake up from surgery.

So I know that there is always a chance that something could go wrong, but you don't want to think about it. Then when your strong husband is scared and you have to be the strong one it just breaks your heart to see him hurting.

So he should be out in about 4 hours
:hug::hug: I hope all goes well. You deserve a good cry after this

The library option isn't one I have gotten to yet, either, but I believe it is 14 days. I think the prices for books is pretty comparable between the two. For the Nook, new releases (books in hard back only in stores) are generally between 9.99-19.99, while books that would generally be paperbacks are less, normal range from $3-$9 (Nora Roberts, for example, is usually around $6.99, not sure why). Also there are always free books as well as books under $5 listings. I have probably 30 books that I have added as free books, and in at least 2 cases, after reading the free one I really liked the series, so bought the next couple from the series. In my case they were $2.99 and $4.99 for the next books in the series. And then B&N has a friday free book that is a newer book every week, I usually get these too, though not always...
The library books rent for up to 21 days. Some libraries have LONG waiting lists though....like one of the newer releases....the list was 27 people long the first day....multiply that by 21 days...... I bought the book.

The publisher sets the price on Nora Roberts books...that's why they are higher :headache:

(((Brandi))) Hope everything goes well for your dh.

Heather I agree with everyone either get a Nook or a Kindle. Go to B&N's & Amazon's websites and check them out. Compare prices & specs of the models. Look at the book lists and see which one has books you're more likely to read.

Kristi-- I tend to go on reading spurts. I try to limit myself to magazines because when I read I tend to only want to do that & nothing else so everything gets neglected. I also find myself staying up all hours of the night. This nook is making it too easy to be bad again. LOL

I do love that I can whip it out ( :teeth:) anywhere.

Yeah....this is the ONLY time I have been happy that Joe is a contract worker.... all his gov't coworkers are done friday until a budget is agreed to..... he's still working.

Now the talks about not issuing checks.... THAT is gonna hurt. Mom and bro haven't gotten their tax return...and dad gets social security. I really hope they don't freeze those checks too long :(

So sorry about the potential work stops/payments from the government, guys. There are definitely times when I am glad Rick is city and essential personnel in a well funded area.

Happy Anniversary, Kelly! You know WAY more than me about the ebook processes, I just end up buying or finding free ones on there and going from there. I have twice managed to find Nora Roberts that were free books, they were older ones, though, and first books in series, which then I felt obligated to buy the rest of the series too... so I have them all on the Nook, lol.I had heard that the publishers set the pricing, too, and sometimes control IF a book is available and when in an ebook format. I know for Wheel of Time series, the publisher and Robert Jordan's widow delayed the ebook edition for something like 4 months from the time the hardback came out, and lots of people were VERY unhappy about it... this was on the most recent book, book 13.Can't think of the name of it right now, but I do have it on the Nook. The new one is supposed to deliver tomorrow per UPS tracking, so I won't be TOO long without it. I do read some on the phone, but the screen is so much nicer on the nook itself, bigger and not backlit, etc. And Mary, I am VERY bad with it, that's been one of the few negatives for me, I will go weeks just reading my free stuff, but then I'll decide I need some new stuff, and I won't add one book, I'll add an entire series or two... So when I shop, it is usually 4 or 5 books minimally. I am trying to be good though.

I feel like I missed a lot today being on West Coast time. Brandi - Glad everything has worked out so far. I'll keep up the prayers that the biopsies are good, too.
I used to read a lot when I was a librarian, but now that I'm in the classroom, I have very little mental energy when I get home. I read during the breaks. My most recent book is Mark Twain's autobiography, but it's so big, I can't take it to the gym, which is my usual reading place during the school year. So it's magazines, newspapers, and online until spring break. If I had a Kindle or Nook, that wouldn't be an issue, but I can't justify spending the money right now.
Hugs to everyone affected by the gov't idiocy.:clown::clown::clown:

Glad it went well. My fingers are crossed the biopsy results come back ok. Go have a drink and a good cry. You deserve it!

Isn't that all of us?:lmao:

Seriously, Mary and Brandi, hope you both aren't furlouged too long. Hopefully everyone will get their tax returns and social security checks. Ours should be here on the 8th, so my fingers are crossed...we are planning on using the Federal return to pay part of our real estate taxes, so hopefully it isn't held up too long.

:grouphug: to you all. I just took some tylenol PM, and am considering some:laundy: since I have Kellyitis. I slept from about 10:30-12, and that was it.

Stupid Kellyitis :(

Kristi....I researched the nook/kindle for almost a year before my mom got tired of me drooling over it, and just bought it for my birthday.

There are a TON of forums out there about them both.

I've gotten a few free books....and quite a few of the ones that are about a $1.

I'm pretty selective about what I read though....I'm pretty much a romance reader. :o

It's a guilty pleasure. I ♥ Nora Roberts earlier books.... some of the newer ones are too paranormal for me.

I've also gotten addicted to Sherryl Woods, Debbie MacComber and Julia Quinn

Okay.... there is something in this living room that is making a ding sound....for the life of me...I can't find it.... cause it's only dinging like every 10 minutes or so.

Hopefully you figure that out.... That is the kind of stuff that will have me up and se4arching thru the house for the noise.

I have taken everything out of the freezer before to find a rattle that came on when the fan came on... MY DH can tune it out and it drives me crazy!:headache:

I finally figured out it was DD12's ipod!!! she left the sound on so it was dinging from her facebook updates.

and NOW I can go to bed.... yeah right

Morning PEEPs.

Not sure what will happen with IRS checks. If they are already scheduled to pay they might still pay. Social Security checks will continue to pay automatically no matter what. If there is a furlough the essential employees will most likely be called in to work to guarantee the newer climants and the ones that have a glitch will be paid too.

I think I will be like you...I won't spend the $$ on myself, but I will put it on my Christmas list and hope for the best.

Are you sure the dinging isn't a dingy Limey hiding somewhere???
Hope you find it soon. It would drive me crazy(well crazier)

That woild be me. Little noises like that drive me bonkers, but Brian can ignore them

So I have been trying to read over the D&B thread on the purses and I just can not get as obsessed as others on these designs and placements....

I think the purse is really neat and for that price I understand getting exactly what you want, but geez do you have to talk about it 24/7

But I have not decided what style I am getting but I have decided that when I return from the May trip I will have one!!!!:laughing:

At sams I can get 110 worth of gift cards for $98.87 so I know that is not much in the way of savings but it is some, and with all of the dinning we will be dining while we are there, I know I will use up the GCs so, I have been buying one every other week. Budgeting is soo hard to do for a trip, when you have so much celebrating going on.:scared1:

Brandi, I agree on the budgeting. I THINK the $10 cards are useless at WDW, but the other is good still, and the little cards are good for the disney store.

Kelly, have you read Susan Wiggs? That's the author of the book that my Nook got stuck in, which is so annoying since I was in the epilogue of the last book in a series which I read the entire thing! I have long loved Nora Roberts and Debbie Macomber, though. I read EVERYTHING, no not really. I don't love non-fiction, and only read a little of it. And I don't like horror, gives me nightmares, or westerns cause they are SO SLOW... but pretty much everything else. I love romance, and I've gotten quite a few of them for super cheap, mostly older ones, but if I read them originally, I've forgotten them, so that's okay by me. I really enjoyed Lynsay Sands vampire series, too. A little out there maybe, but primarily good romance. My mother reads almost entirely romance, my dad always read like Tom Clancy, John Grisham, James Patterson, etc. My sister and I read a fair amount of scifi/fantasy stuff, my brother in law and I share some straight scifi.

But I was thinking that I could use the $10 cards on the purse I want... That 40th anniversary bag, if they take the cards at the World of Disney?
