Hello everyone I am very excited I have booked flights to Florida this morning for my DH, ME AND D'S but the thing is we are not telling my son until the day we travel to Gatwick we do not go until October the 17th HOW AM I GOING TO KEEP QUITE I AM SO EXCITED AS THEY SAY ON THE TV  lots of secret planning know and hopefully I can keep quite :confused3

Fabulous news! :thumbsup2 I am taking my DS in December and I'm not telling him we're going until we board the plane. Quite honestly I'm pants at keeping secrets but I've got a story all worked out - we're going away for Christmas and I'm going to tell him that he and I have to go a week early without DH to get the place ready. That's how I'll explain the suitcases, going to Gatwick etc. Fingers crossed we can both keep from blabbing... :rolleyes1

I couldn't keep a secret like that. Told my kids straightaway the first time we went because I thought it was nice to have it to look forward to, talk about and prepare for together.

We are going with some friends this year who have never been to WDW before. The parents were going to keep it a secret until nearer the time (ie Easter as we go in July). Then it was brought back to Christmas, then back to the end of October 06. We ended up telling them in September, just after we had booked the flights.

She just couldn't keep it to herself, as she wanted them to be involved in the planning. We have another planning meeting tomorrow night, when we want to start putting our itinerary together.

Mind you her children are 15 & 14!

The first year we took our DS, we didn't tell him (he was 3 at the time), because we thought he would drive us made with "When are we going? Is it today?" etc etc. Never forget his face when he realised on the first morning in CBR that he was at "Mickey Mouse Land". He thought we were in the Isle of Wight!!

He'll love me for this as he is now nearly 16!

Good luck with keeping your secret.

How old is your son? the reason i ask is that a few years ago we kept it from our 2 girls and didnt tell them until the night before, even though they were excited they werent that happy because they would of liked the excitement of the build up to the holiday, and to have packed their own suitcases!!
no pleasing kids is there!!:rotfl:

I don't think it'll phase my son too much - he'll be 14.5 by then, it's not his first WDW trip by a long way and he's a pretty relaxed chap. TBH it's not a planning type of trip as we're only going for a week - I'll probably book La Nouba but that's about it. Plus he'll be prepared for a trip, just not a WDW trip. I sort his clothes out, the only things he takes are iPod, PSP etc and that's stuff he'd take in his Eastpak to Paris anyway...

Honestly, knowing me, I'll probably spill the beans well before December... ;)

Hi!
I never tell my children when we are going and I love the excitement when I wake them in the morning and they see the suitcases!!

They are younger,so it is easier to keep it from them,

I booked a Disney cruise for last December as my Xmas present to the family, I had to keep the secret for a whole year and yes it was murder! but it was worth it when I finally broke the news.

The only downside to these type of secrets is missing the excitment of planning with the family beforehand.

I've never had to worry about secrets and such because we've just got the two of us, but I can see that for kids who are old enough to plan that would almost be as good as the holiday itself. :woohoo:

Tough decisions. Why not make a big thing of the announcement say a month or two before. Give him time to watch all the films he's going to be riding.

We kept Disneyland Paris a secret from our 6yr old until 2 weeks before we went. I really struggled to keep my mouth shut especially when people asked what we were doing for christmas (we went just before christmas). I really missed being able to talk about it and plan what rides we'd go on first. So this time she's in it from the start as we don't go to WDW until 25th Sept 2008:banana: :yay:  So lots of time for planning and excitement and also a very good bargaining tool.

I was going to keep this coming holiday a secret from my DS9, but decided very early on that he should be involved in all the planning and excitement. We've been having a great time talking and learning about Orlando and its really helped to build the excitement for us :)

To make up for it however, I've booked us a 1 week hire of a Ford Mustang convertible which I am definitely NOT blabbing about until we actually pick the car up. This will be a really big thrill for him, as he has always wanted to ride in a convertible. :thumbsup2

We did this last year, and it worked fantastically :yay: , my DH & I booked almost 12mths in advance to take our 2 DD's along with my parents, we told our DD's that we would be going on holiday but we hadn't booked anywhere at the moment, I bought all the essentials, had the cases packed without them noticing :lmao: , bought them lanyards and pins of ebay :) , We booked our taxi and told the girls we we're all going to a water park for the day :rolleyes1 , I helped them pack their bags (hand luggage :rolleyes1 ) they didn't question anything as they had their goggles in their bags, my DH took our luggage to my parents the night before so they didn't see it, and even when the taxi came the next morning even the driver played along with the trip of going to the water park!, Our DD's were as good as gold colouring in the taxi, and as we're approaching departures at Manchester Airport our eldest DD questions the airport:confused: what are we doing here??, where are we going, it was wonderful they we're soooo excited . Keep it a secret it's soo worth it.
