second week of August or Thanksgiving week?

I just read on another question on this board about the week of Thanksgiving. Most people seemed to say that the crowds from Saturday through Tuesday were fine (it was from Wednesday on that it got really crowded). I'm booked for RPR August 12 to August 16th, but I'm really worried about the heat and the crowds. I'm thinking about changing my plans to the week of Thanksgiving and arriving that Saturday and leaving on the Wednesday. The kids will be off that whole week. Is it warm enough to swim in November? Will the water rides be running? I just can't decide what to do?

Will you be staying on-site? I agree with you about the heat, but extreme heat bothers me greatly. November weather is pleasant usually. You can swim for sure.

Unless you encounter a rare cold-snap like we did

This past November, we did not do the water rides nor swim as it was COLD. So cold that it even snowed. I take that back - we did do JPR once and got soaked. Bad idea as we all shivered after that. I had cabanas reserved for two of the 8 days we were there and had to cancel both as the temperature never rose above the low 60's. We had a magical gathering (family reunion) at Epcot and Disney brought us all blankets out and turned the space heaters up to max. (That was the night it snowed for the first time in umpteen years). I was never so happy to feel the fire across the lagoon at the end of the show

With November weather, there is always the chance that the weather could be cold.

That said, I would still take November over August anytime. We used to do all our vacations in August and after discovering the low humidity of the winter months -never again. If we have to sacrifice a few wet rides and the pool, so be it.

Exactly, thats why I said usually. We had the same thing happen to us one time and needed our winter coats, but that was the first week of december. Many times though during that time frame we have been pleasantly surprised with the weather.

Like you we used to visit late august each year and I just cant do it anymore. That weather slows us down and we just drag. We had a solid week of rain storms in August too.

Awww dont worry! Hit the water rides and place yourself under the water misters as often as possible. I would still take a HOT day at Universal over NO day anytime. The AC in all the shops and restaurants is always a welcome escape too.

You are so right!! The weather is unpredictable whenever you go. Summer - there is the chance you will encounter heavy rainstorms. Winter - it could be colder.

But that first part of the Thanksgiving week - heaven! FWIW - the week before Christmas is similar. The rides were all walk-ons, we weren't encumbered by misty mates, backpacks with water, etc.
