Hi all. We've never visited DW in the summer... comments please on crowds, weather, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Specifically June 10-17... thank you!

and never again I hate to tell you. Lots of people and the weather was horrible. We actually came home a day early :sad2:

Now, let me explain a little. I knew ahead of time that it is the rainy season and had poncho's and thought I was prepared. The problem wasn't just brief showers... it was thunder and lightning (closes rides and pools) and lasted several hours. One day we got trapped in Tomorrowland and it flooded so we had to wade through several inches of water to get to the front of the park. (Now shoes are wet and all we have are beach shoes and sandals. Now I always take 2 pair of tennis shoes. That was MY fault. Also didn't think about the dryers.) We would head back to POP once we realized it may not be brief and if it ever stopped we were already in down-time mode and not ready to head back to park. At the time my DS was 8 and DD 6. Had they been older it may have been different for us. Do a later night thing etc.

Still had a great time and went back this April. Going back in Oct '07 just not again in the summer months if I can at all help it.

Wish I could tell you more. Maybe someone with more years of summer WDW experience can give you better news.

we went around that time last year. every afternoon it would atleast rain but usually storm. however by dinner time it was nice again so we headed back to the parks for the parades and fireworks. the crowds seemed pretty normal while we were there, but we never go at an "off" time. the first 2-3 hours had short waits, then it would start to get 40 min. or so waits so we went back to the hotel to swim real fast before the afternoon storms would come.
it is hot but not unbearable like august is, but we live in the south so we are used to 90+ degree weather. overall we had a good time and are already booked for june 3-11 :woohoo:

Our good friends went last year at that time and they said never again. Said it was so hot and humid they spent more time at the hotel swimming then at the parks. It was so hot they didn't do half of the things they wanted to do. No Big Thunder, NO Splash, etc. Said they didn't really enjoy themselves as much as they thought because of it. This was their first trip so I think it kind of ruined it for them because they said they are in no hurry to go back :guilty: Whats up with that???

We were there last June about this time. Yes it's hot. Yes it's crowded. But if you get to the parks at opening or go to am EMH, you can get alot done by lunch. We almost always left the parks after lunch, went to the hotel to swim. By the time we were ready for dinner the rain would start. We ate at the food court at our resort. Then the rain would stop and we'd head back out.

Just be prepared with rain ponchos and a good plan for rides and you'll be fine. I also loved my misty fans I got at the dollar store. My kids liked the big ones that sprayed water and I was quite attached to my handheld fan.

Would also like to know the same info. Our DS will start elementary school next fall. So we now I have to go in summer. Planning on June 2007 second week.
Keep info. coming :wave2: lorilori please tell me how your trip goes this summer when you return

Crowded, hot and humid and it's rainy season. But, hey, it's a better day in WDW than at the office!

We've been there that time period twice and had no problems. Waited in line 20 minutes, max, by using EMH mornings, FP, UG's suggestions for which parks to avoid which days.
Yes, it's hot and humid. Drink a lot. Bring battery-powered fans. Avoid long waits in the blazing sun. Take a cool, relaxing break in an A/C restaurant for lunch or head back to your resort to swim/nap in the peak afternoon hours. Or hit the shows in A/C during the hottest parts of the day.
I'd rather be at WDW in June than in the Chicago suburbs (my home!) :sunny:

We agree. It's almost a state of mind. You know it's going to be hot. You know it's going to be crowded (but not as crowded at July and beginning of August) and you know it's going to rain every afternoon. But with a little planning we've always been able to do everything we want. Evidenced by our up coming 9 night trip June 13-22.

better reviews than I did.

Although we didn't have the *best* time, we did and will continue to return.

Go, have a great time and I do agree that any day at Disney is better than a day at the office.

I agree with most of the previous posts. We went first week of June 2004. It rained a little each day except for a memorable downpour that lasted hours as my 9 year old & I sat getting soaked to the bone watching Illuminations. That was the one day, and the last, that we went without the yellow rain poncho. We liked it so much that we're going again this year June 4-11.
Can't wait

We went the last week of May/first week of June years ago...it rained almost every day. We still loved it. We went last year the third week of July and it didn't rain one time. But it was hot! Just be prepared for anything, and you will have a great time.

GREAT INFORMATION!! We are going last week in June. As it is our first time, I would say we need to pack our patience. Thanks! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We have been a couple of times in early-mid June. My advice would be to pick another time of possible. We have enjoyed our visits at cooler times of year more than the June visits. Here are what I have experienced as the problems of June at WDW

-heat and humidity wiull be more than you are used to unless you are from Panama

-the aforementioned climate saps adults of their energy faster. A practical application of this: Family is if Frontierland; adult A goes to get FPs for Jungle Cruise while everyone else awaits on Tom Sawyer's Island. In February this is a pleasant jaunt; in summer it can be the Bataan Death March.

-the climate also makes little ones crankier earlier in the day

-a midday break at the resort is practically a necessity during the summer. You really do not have the option of staying in the park thru the afternoon

-Here is a delicate one, but one to take into account nonetheless: Everyone at the parks stinks in the summer time (myself included). Sweat and funk all make for an often unpleasant aroma as you wait in line for attractions. Of course people can sweat year 'round, but it seems like the percentages are higher in summer

All in all, I would go back to WDW in June, but it would not be my preferred time to go. We like January best of all. Regarding going in summer due to school schedules, I advocate pulling your child out of school for a brief time to take advantage of better times of year to vacation. I know there are differing opinions on this, but it has worked extremely well for our family -and neither child is suffering academically. We try arrange our vacations around school weeks inwhich the kids may have 2-3 days off any way.

We are going to be in WDW June 9 - 17. We went at about the same time last year. With school and our kids' summer sports schedule, this is our only time that works. Yes, it is hot but since we're from Louisiana we are accustomed to heat and humidity and aren't shy about taking breaks in the a/c and get rehydrated. We are going for a bit longer stay this time so we can really relax and if a park is very crowded, we'll go somewhere else and will go another day/night. And one thing about the rain is that it does clear lines out. :teeth:

And we're going June 14 - 23. :sunny:

We went the second week of June last year. Our first real trip (before that our whole WDW experience consisted of a day at Epcot). The only complain for us is that it rained every day.

We went commando, from about 11:A.M until park closing, and had a great time! (but we were all adults. It may be diffferent when you bring kiddies along)

C'Mon Gang, Let's be positive...At least we are all somewhere other than the office as LISAMWDW states. Some families with school age children don't have much of a choice but to plan their vacations in the months of June, July or August. Just make certain to stay cool.
