Can someone explain how a second contract of small points would work? In the video about the VGF, it mentioned I think a 25 point contract. I currently own at AKV. So a 25 point contract at another resort would allow you 11 month priority at the second resort. But it would only allow you hold a room type or date sequence that utilized no more than 25 points, correct? You would still have to wait until the seven month window in order to extend it or change room types.

Are there other benefits that I'm missing?

At any point in the process (7 months?), would I be able to use my AKV points combined with the newer contract? or would they always be treated as two separate sets?

Using Banking and/or borrowing, you could have up to 75 points to make a reservation at that home resort during the home resort priority period.

That makes sense. Being new, I've been using my points without banking. I haven't borrowed yet either, but that would work. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

And if you are still a few points short of what you need, you can buy one-time-use points: maximum of 24 per use year per membership, at a cost of $15 each.

With the second contract, it's not necessarily about the 11 month booking window. I'm using my 2014 and 2015 points from my main contract for a 2014 vacation. If I bank and borrow, I can do a 4 night stay in a studio in March 2015 using just my 25-point contract (and maybe some one-time use points, depending on where I book). Then in 2016 I can go back to using my main contract.

Or you can book a trip using both contracts at the 7 month mark. The rules have been discussed in other threads. You can't pay for any given night with points from both contracts. You can transfer points from the smaller contract to the larger contract, or you can make 2 separate resies and link them.

Only at the 7 month mark with one time points, not 11.

At 7 months, if the both contracts are under the same membership (ie, owner, UY which if you purchase direct Disney will set it up as although it can be done with resale purchases too) then they can be used together just as if it were one contract. You would have the ability to decide which points are used first though.

This rule only applies to points from different master contracts, not from add ons to the same master contract.

OP, even if you bank and borrow 25 points to get 75 points every three years, they are not going to get you much at GFV. Two nights in a one bedroom, three nights in a studio (and not a Christmas time).

Oh, yeah, you're right, I got my second contract on the resale market and it has a different use year than my first. So different master contracts.

The other perk of the small contract is that you can purchase them incrementally without financing. Now, I don't know how long it will take VGF to sell out, but presuming it doesn't, if you bought a 25 contract now and then another 25 point contract a year from now, then you could get that 150 points every three years with banking/borrowing. It might get you 6 or 7 nights in a studio.
