Second-guessing the Nurse Practitioner

I had a Radiologist at a local well respected hospital miss a spot on my brain for 2 years on 2 separate MRIs. Luckily, the spots are common with people who get tons of migraines so the Neuro said I shouldn't panic. None-the-less, the error is inexcusable.

DH had a Radiologist misread a test on him and he nearly had his gallbladder removed over the teensy mistake.

Nothing wrong with a second opinion ,in fact most insurance companies allow them

Agreed, I can tell a couple of first-hand stories re. radiologist errors. One of them killed my friend (tech said it was clear, radiologist signed off without going over it and missed the very evident beginnings of bladder cancer; later confirmed with a second reading at a different hospital, but by then it was way too late to save her life).

Even if you did have a rib fracture that was missed on x-ray, they are not going to change the course of treatment. All you can do it take advil and wait for it to heal, outside of wrapping your chest if you are in thatm uch pain. My Dad broke 5 ribs on one side in a car accident, and believe me, unless those ribs are shattered, there is nothing to be done but wait for it to heal. Iti s like a broken toe. There is really no benefit to having it diagnosed b/c there is no difference in the course of treatment.

This is only a suggestion, but you may want to consider switching from ibuprofen over to naproxen (Aleve). It may work better for you, or it may not. And you can check with your doctor/NP about alternating naproxen with acetaminophen and take both, taking one several hours after the other. Did the NP say anything about a muscle relaxant? Again, these are only suggestions and you should call your doctor/NP about trying any of these. Feel better soon!!!

a big NO to both of these bolded. but that argument is for another thread:)

Thank you!

Why do people think nurse practitioners and MDs do the same thing?

Nursing is a profession, when people (even someone who may know no better) dumb it down, it pulls from it being seen as a profession.

Plenty of nurses save lives without physicians, as do nurse practitioners. It's the AMAs desire to regulate nursing (although they are not nurses and have no true idea of what nurses do) that keeps them involved at all.

WOW
I never knew that there was nothing that could be done for cracked ribs
OP I hope you feel better soon
