Second guessing my resort choice

Right now I have a Garden View at the Grand Floridian booked, but I'm second guessing this and should have booked the King room in the main building. It would be $1,200 to switch to that room. I can afford it, but it seems like a ridiculous amount of money for not very long. Has anyone stayed in both of these rooms? Would it be worth that to switch to the main building?

If the money isn't an issue to consider, then yes it would be worth it. The one issue I take with deluxe resorts having outer buildings from the main is that when I'm paying for a deluxe, I really should not have to walk outside during a rain storm if I want a drink refill. Silly? Maybe, but seriously. Lol.

Yes, I've stayed in both and no, IMHO, it's not worth it. We've stayed at GF six times (RPC, outer building suite, standard garden and standard lagoon) and if we ever go back, I will book whatever is cheapest because there is not a bad room at GF!

Among other reasons, I find the buildings at GF very confusing. Maybe if you stay there you get used to it, but when I went for a massage/facial at Senses I think I went by way of China back to the main building.

The main building rooms are club level, which will include some pre-planning plus snacks and drinks during the day. If you think you'd enjoy spending time in the lounge then it might be worth it to switch, but I agree with the pp who said that all the rooms are nice. We've stayed in the main building, Sugar Loaf, and also outer buildings and while the main building is convenient the GF is not so spread out that it's far to walk anywhere. I enjoy the main building but for the $800 upcharge for it for 2 nights on our upcoming trip I personally do not think it's worth it. It really just depends on what you would prefer and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Thanks everyone! Not sure if it helped me make up my mind one way or the other though lol. I feel like my boyfriend will tell me to stay with the cheaper room, but I do like that you don't have to go outside.

If you have a package booked, you may incur a $50 change fee if you make changes less than 30 days prior to your trip, however, if the package cost is higher, they typically waive the fee. You can change a room-only at any time. If you cancel a room-only within 5 days of arriving, you lose your deposit.

I have never stayed in the main building, and while I think it would be pretty darn sweet, I would not pay the extra $1200 for it. I find the grounds on the GF to be relaxing, so the walk to the lobby does not bother me.

I also want to be "home" when I am back at my resort, and the lobby is kind of busy, so for me, the outer buildings are a step away from all that activity.

Senses is a walk away, but again, I find that distance to be positive. I tend to use that walk to distance myself from the "vacation" mode that can overtake the family in much the same way that I like a little drive to work. THe transition is a good thing, IMO.

I agree with mmmears. If you plan to spend some time relaxing in the lounge, RPC would be worth it (IMO). But if you will be out away from the resort most of the time, I wouldn't upgrade. Having also stayed RPC, SL & outer buildings, RPC is amazing, but I had just as great of a time in SL and GV outer building. Good luck deciding, but I'm sure you'll have a great trip no matter which room you choose .
