Second guessing HOJO's for July Trip

Let's be frank, everyone. As another poster said, staying in any off-site hotel means that you may encounter some upsetting people on the walk in, even if it's just while you cross the street. Staying onsite does not mean you won't run into other people who may be rude obnoxious and inappropriate. It can happen anytime, anywhere.

Honestly though, if we had ever been that unfortunate, I would certainly have called the cops right away. It is indeed very inappropriate and upsetting to have children harassed that way, and I certainly would have wanted the police to ensure that such a person was removed so that it didn't happen to others.

We can't blame any hotel for the actions of others that aren't working there. The fault is solely the person acting badly.

Gee...thanks for the edit to add the bolded part.

Your subsequent post stressed to me the obvious trauma he experienced. I was concerned enough to enquire as to whether he has recovered.

Additionally, I wanted other readers to recognize that we weren't discussing the assault of a child.

Jenpace, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I hope you used it to educate your daughter that rude people can be everywhere and called the cops to show her we don't just leave others to be harassed as well. I also hope your son chose to show that an adult does not acknowledge that kind of talk by responding directly to the offender. But, I think it is important to realize that these things can happen ANYWHERE and stop making it about DL or Hojo.

OP- since this was your thread questioning your choice originally, I would say you have to do what is right for you. We've had 2 different posters on this thread from the same time with two very different experiences, as well as those that have had great visits and mediocre visits.

In the end, a good trip is what you make of it and how calmly you and your family can take minor issues. If you use basic caution that you would use anywhere (don't leave your purse out on your car seat, don't talk or open your door to strangers, etc.), and use common sense, you should be fine wherever you choose.

Well I sure as heck didn't think this post would go the direction it did. Having never been to DL I am really relying on all of your experiences to help me plan my trip. I appreciate the assistance I have gotten on this board!

I was concerned given the post I referenced that things at HOJO's may have delined or maybe staying out that distance with my mom using a scooter and possibly going back and forth by herself at times, may not be the best option.

I am going to trust my initial decision to stay at HOJO and I appreciate all of you sharing you experiences. The report of comfy beds for her is a plus!

Thank you! :thumbsup2

Your sacasm was evident to even the most dense of readers, I assure you of that. It just wasn't appreciated by all.

People are allowed to post their views on hotels and walks. Your perception may vary, but it isn't worth getting sarcastic over their distress.

You can just agree to disagree and move on.

Actually, my sarcasm was directed to her labeling of the mentally ill as "weirdo" "horrible" and "creepy". And her subsequent response that, from Post #38: "I will judge whenever I want to." was exceedingly inappropriate.

I totally agree that each person is entitled to their own viewpoint. What a boring world it would be if all ice cream was vanilla. That is why there is choice of hotels and restaurants, for example, and we are all free to make our own choices.

But to be purposefully judgemental and hurtful to someone less fortunate, even after it was pointed out that you were being hurtful, is not OK. And I would hope that even the most dense of readers (your words not mine - anyone specific you would like to name?) would recognize that and would also be unappreciative of that type of comment.

How can you judge whether that person was mentally ill and not just a creep as she said. A pervert isn't necessarily mentally ill and to assume so is disgusting. We have issues in our family with mentally challenged kids and when I read her post "mentally ill" didn't cross my mind at all....pervert did.

Okey dokey, folks -

metta4, I'm sorry things have apparently veered way off track here. I hope you feel satisfied with the answers and information you've received.:goodvibes

I'm going to close this thread because the tone of it has changed to where I think it will be tough for those involved in the disagreement to ignore future replies and get back on course. It's become, basically, too adversarial and tense, and it's just not the kind of thing we want on the DIS.
