Second guessing Boma ADR

I originally had a reservation for Boma, but did cancel it, because I was just unsure....I did regret it at one point, because of all the good reviews on these boards. I made a breakfast ressie there, but canceled that as well....and I know this is hearsay, but I was just at Disney and was talking to someone in the store at star tours while we were waiting for our families to get out of the ride...and she reported that her husband got food poisoning after eating at Boma, he was extremely sick for a couple of days of their trip....now granted, that could have happened anywhere, but still....

My DH is a meat and potato/rice kind of guy and he found plenty to eat at Boma's that suited his taste. The meat carving station has a good variety of meats. The fish selection is usually the one protein that has the most different taste. The beef, pork and ribs are not that exotic. The second station with sides might be the most adventurous for folks. The spices are on the sweet side for the most of the carbs. There is a decent kid's selection and according to the college age kids in our group, the mac and cheese was decent. Personally I LOVE the soups. They had a lamb stew this summer to die for. There is usually 5 different soups. There are 2 different salad selections, the familiar salad bar and then a selection of "African" salad tastings. I don't care for some, but the apple/lettuce salad (not the name, but what I remember in it) was very tasty. The dessert station has a nice selection. Just a few ethnic desserts and the rest variations of dessert favorites. You have to try Zebra Domes.

AKL is worth a trip to see the lobby and walking out to the savannah to see the animals.

We love Boma and never miss it. The soups alone are worth the trip. Absolutely delicious and unique. :thumbsup2

We had the same problem when we made our choices. I asked about there being enough "normal" foods for our taste. I was inquiring about breakfast though.

We were assured there are plenty of normal foods without the African flair so we went.

It was way too African for us even at breakfast.

We all were eating lots of the same couple of foods to get our fill. There just wasn't much without the extra flavors added in.

We won't return. Lesson learned - if in doubt, leave it out!!

Wow, to say I'm shocked by this is putting it mildly. Our family of four relatively picky eaters devoured our breakfast at Boma! Everything we had was absolutely delicious, and had no different or unusual flavorings at all ... and we ate a ton! It was by far the best and most lavish breakfast buffet we've ever had.

Ate at Boma's once last trip early September, It was fine once but we won't be going back, dining plan freebie. Don't cancel ressies because of it, try it once and make your own mind up:thumbsup2

I would give it a try. I really enjoy it, but I'm a pretty adventurous eater. We went last Dec with a group of 12 with varying tastes and ages and all were able to find something to eat. Everyone enjoyed the meal.

As I posted in another thread, the only critisim I have is with the desserts, while all are very yummy, most contained alcohol so the kids couldn't try them. There probably isn't enough alcohol to hurt them, but I still would not feel comfortable allowing the kids to eat them.
