Second guessing Boma ADR

We are going to WDW for Thanksgiving and the week after. I have secured all my Adr's but I am second guessing the Boma ADR. We have never been to AKL and would love to see it, but I am not sure this is up our food alley. We don't really do uniquely spiced foods.

I know it gets pretty good reviews on here. I guess I want to know if AKL is worth going to and maybe not liking this restaurant.

It will be near impossible to get another dinner reservation in it's place. We could always do ESPN or Beaches n Cream instead.

Please help!! Do they have enough "normal" food to off set the others in case we don't like it. And I don't mean chicken tenders.:rotfl:

We tried Boma dinner for the 1st time about a month ago. It wasn't awful, but there were too many "flavors of Africa" type foods for us - we won't go back to Boma for dinner on future trips.

If there wasn't much African food, what kind of food would you say it was?

I'd say there's lots of Northern African food/spices. We loved it, but we also love Moroccon food and Ethiopian food. We just love ethnic foods in general. Middle Eastern is one of my favorite types of food, and they share a hint of the same flavors.

It was one of our favorites last time, but our friends who are more meat and potatoes didn't enjoy it that much. Lots of spicy soups and veggies. Mm.. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

If you don't typically like Indian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean... I'd probably opt for something else. :)

Unless you want to eat from the children's pod, you are not going to find much food there that doesn't have interesting ingredients or spices (except green salad). Many of the foods are sweet or spicy or both. Even most of the meat, like the chicken and ribs, have spices that you may not like. The soups are all excellent, IMO, but they are "different".

We are very adventurous and enjoy Boma but we took a couple last year who are more plain eaters and this was not a meal that they enjoyed.

We are staying for the first time at AKV in February and was considering an ADR at Boma but decided against it because we are picky eaters. Years ago we went to AKL just to see the resort and went through the lobby to the back to see the animals...it was neat to see. You could always visit and not eat. We try to visit one resort each time we go and don't necessarily eat there.

Albeit we are plain eaters also, trying something differents isn't always bad.

It is one of the places we try it and enjoy it as a change of pace at least every other trip, i.e. 2-3 times a year.
It is a buffet, so you can try just a little, and sample a lot and then try some more or go back for what you enjoy.

The desserts are great, and the meat carvings at the beginning of the line are fairly normal and tasteful.

Treat it as an adventure as we do and you may enjoy it more than you think.

I would give it a shot

To me, Boma is the best place to eat in WDW.

I would do Boma for breakfast, it is fantastic....we did dinner at Boma and didnt like it at all, the flavors were too different for us

We do Boma every trip, it our favorite place to eat dinner at WDW but we are not picky at all! If you are worried about it I would suggest going to the breakfast buffet, it is great and there are alot more "normal" foods at the breakfast buffet than at the dinner. That way you have a reason to go to AKL without going to dinner there.
Or you would even just plan to have lunch at the Mara one day so you can get over that way to see the resort and get a meal.

The wife and I have stayed at the AKL many times, and we both love Boma.

I have a very sensitive stomach, and I was able to find stuff for dinner that wasn't too crazy from a spice/flavor standpoint.

Since we always go on our Anniv, they always toss in a nice dessert for us at our table too! :D

Are you going to Boma on Thanksgiving? Many WDW restaurants add Turkey and more tradtional Thanksgiving foods to their menus that day...

I was worried it wouldn't be different enough! We are doing Sanaa instead. ;) Boma is on my list of places to try though - especially if we stay at AKL one day!

I wouldn't say we are plain eaters- but def have never had "ethnic" flavors. I am just worried that we won't like it. I know it gets good reviews on here and it sounds interesting.....

I personally loved trying the different dishes. I didn't like them all but I did like several.

The kids' area has "normal" food in case of emergency. I tried one of the chicken strips and it was surprisingly good. They also have normal desserts.

I think it's well worth going to if only to visit AKL. You can always fill up on dessert! :)

Both myself and my DGF (very picky eater) absolutely loved Boma both times we went. I would definitely give it a shot. It really isn't as out there as you might think.

We are somewhat adventurous I suppose. But I must say that the one meal I had at Boma was the best I ever had at WDW. It is my first choice for a dinner one night with my family. They have never been but I know everyone will find things they like. Being from the south I found lots of dishes I recognize which I guess stems from the African influence we have here in food. You will find a really good sweet potato dish (I hope they still have it cause it was great), cole slaw (called something else there though), roast beef, etc. Go for it. It will be great.
