Second deck ocean view rooms?

Ok, I know from reading, Princess Shmoo loves them. I've never stayed in one...

I was supposed to be taking two DCL cruises this fall/winter. The first, CL on the Dream 3 night departing Oct 7th for a wedding on CC. And, of course that didn't happen.

The second, 4 night Dream CL leaving Dec 12th. I actually cancelled that one. Didn't cancel, moved it to the Canada 5 night next year. We're going to Europe in 2017 and I didn't want to spend "that much" on two Bahamian cruises I'd done several times on top of Europe..

So, Oct 7 cancelled and now I've got a full refund and a 20% booking to use before the end of 2017. Since I've already taken the time off for the December cruise, I'm thinking I may jump back aboard. CL is sold out. I'm actually considering going less expensive (if I can't do CL) and book an outside room... Outside price AND my London airfare is the same as the 3 nights CL. I've never stayed in a deck 2 room.

So, my question is: why do people like them so much? What is your draw to deck 2? I guess I need to make a decision today and book (if I'm going to book December). If I don't I'm going to try to put the 20% on the Canadian cruise.

We stayed on deck 2 on the Wonder and loved how close it was to all the public areas on deck 3 and 4. And if we wanted to go up to the pool deck, it was always easy to get on an elevator as they arrived empty. When coming back onto the ship from port, it was up one flight of stairs, no waiting with others for the elevators. I also really enjoyed the perspective when looking out of the window of being close to the water line.

Just got back from my first cruise with DCL and dated on deck 2 on the magic. I kind of expected not to like it but don't think I'll ever go higher.

Like above said, we walked to decks 3,4 and 5 and it was no issue to ever get an elevator to go higher.

The one bad thing was that there was some fairly loud banging in our room when we were docking. No issue for us because we happened to be up every time it happened but I can see how it may be an issue for some (and I assume it depends on the room).

I have stayed in a Deck 2 oceanview room a couple of times, on the Dream and Magic. They are a good value. I require a window and Deck 2 is economical. I don't mind walking the stairs and in fact prefer it so I can eat more dessert. Also, on the Dream, Enchanted Garden is on deck 2 which makes it very convenient in the morning to grab a relatively calm breakfast there (as opposed to Cabanas). It is only a couple decks up from the public areas and kids clubs. It is a hike to the pool deck, more so on the Dream class ships but it is not a deal breaker for me. I would stay on Deck 2 anytime.

We live deck 2 for the same reasons

- better pricing
- easy proximity to restaurants
-easier to catch elevators going up
- or easy to take the stair challenge daily- all the way up to deck 9 several times a day- great cardio workout

deck 2 is a great choice!!!

We booked deck 2 on the Wonder for economy. We ended up loving the convenient location. Close to decks 3 and 4. We were slightly aft of the midship elevators so used the aft ones which are rarely used as much as the midship. We were on the WBPC and it was amazing to go thru the locks in our cabin and watch the sides of the locks go by. We liked it enough that we booked deck 2 on the Magic for our upcoming WBTA.

I just want to clarify that we've only done deck 2 on the Magic class ships. We had booked a room on deck 2 on our Fantasy B2B, but we rebooked a VGT when the price came out and got verandah rooms instead.

My only hesitation on the deck 2 rooms on the Dream class is, unlike the Magic class, the rooms are on a deck that isn't staterooms only. Since Enchanted Garden is on deck 2, it's a little busier there, it seems. There's not nearly as many of them as on the Magic class, and mostly forward with a few midship.

We got Deck 2 as a GTY on the Fantasy and I was disappointed...and then the cruise started. I'm not sure exactly why but being able to go to Breakfast almost literally outside my door was fantastic!

I echo what others say about a short walk up to the public spaces and if we were going to the pool it was a no brained elevator ride.

I also felt it took us out of the crowds. On the Dream class ships there are far less staterooms on this deck and it didn't feel as crowded with guests, housekeeping carts, and people walking through.

I just posted about this but this was my biggest fear when we were assigned deck 2 on fantasy. I think the way the hall kinda "hides" from the E.G. Lobby made it feel more private and we loved ducking in there. I was really surprised by how less crowded and more private it felt compared to other stateroom only decks.

My draw to an ocean view room on deck 2 was the price as it was the lowest available at the time we booked. This was an extra cruise, sort of last minute when we decided to do the Castaway Cay Challenge this past January so the cheaper the better. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the area. It turned out to be very convenient and it seemed like we were almost secluded in that back hallway.

Add us to the batch of people that loved sailing deck 2 on the magic class ships. We sailed in 2552 on the Wonder in May and loved it so much we booked it again for next October. We had reservations since we have loved having a verandah in the past but honestly it was lovely to be inside with a great low view of the water. Plus, it was quite a bit cheaper.

I'm another Deck 2 lover, especially after the Alaska trip on the Wonder.

• half price to balcony
• forget the Deck 1 "twins". Deck 2 has a giant window. I think it's like 4 or 5 feet across.
• no concern about someone falling off
• I did not use the balcony much going to Alaska as it was too cold and windy.... Deck 2 feels like a climate controlled balcony
• do you lose floor space when you get a balcony.... especially if you don't use the balcony?
• while some say it's a convenient walk on the stairs.... I find getting on the elevator at peak times handy as you are near the bottom.
• midship Deck 2 windows are larger than front and back.
• while some like midship for less motion. Front gets more wave action.... aft may get more engine vibration
• they power wash the window each morning

We had a deck 8 oceanview on the Dream the first time we sailed, then our second cruise we had a deck 6 balcony on the Magic and then a deck 2 room on the Wonder this summer and we are SOLD on deck 2. We've booked deck 2 for our upcoming Magic cruise in March and when we book next year in Europe, we'll also go for deck 2. I'll echo what others have said, the elevators are always empty (in fact, I remember when we were booked on deck 8 on the Dream, we would sometimes walk down a flight of stairs just to take an empty elevator to deck 8), it's a quick walk up or down to common areas. I also really liked being close to the water line. It was a really neat view (especially in Alaska, it made everyone feel bigger and grander looking up from the water line).

Have sailed twice on the Wonder on Deck 2 and LOVED it both times!! We would like to try a Veranda at least once, but I would stay on Deck 2 again without hesitation. Our friends who have sailed twice on the Wonder concur, they love it also.

I have sailed on the Magic and Wonder on decks 2, 5 (both oceanview) and deck 6 (verandah) and have booked our next two cruises on deck 2. We prefer the location, for all the same reasons as Flossbolna said at the start of this thread.
