I was on the Disney Dollarless web site and I found an advertisement for a book called Secerts To An Affordable WDW trip. Has anyone ever used the book Secerets To An Affordable Disney? I think it's about $30. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to buy. I'm kind of upset about not being able to use my DC card for our trip next year during spring break. I'm really trying to get some discounts. It's tough when your a family of 5. It seems "everything" at that time is double the price. Anyway thanks for any info. you can give and for the help you been giving!!! Connie

DON'T BUY IT!!!!
You can get all the same info for free (and sooner) by reading the Disboards and visiting mousesavers.com to learn about new discounts. It is a waste of money. HTH

:D

Thank you Renee. I really appreciate the info.. I thought this book might have been a waste of money. But thought I'd find out if anyone had any knowledge of it. There is a lot of free information on this and other forums. I really love these websites!!:bounce:

No problem!! I was a sucker that bought it before I knew about these great free resources!! I don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did!! ;)

Hi fellow sucker! I too, was a dunce and purchased that book

I agree, do not buy!! I too, was a sucker...the Deluxe version for $39.00! The info here is much more accessible and useful. It's not terrible, but I like the ability interact/get feedback and perform searches for what I am specifically looking for.

I liked the book. Yeah it cost me 29.95 but it has alot of information that I can now go to one place and find. ANd yes you are right you can get alot of FREE information thru other sites too just like this one. I guess it is a matter of opinion. But I do not consider myself to be a SUCKER for buying it. No one starts out knowing everything so you have to try things to learn new things. And learning doesn't always come for FREE.

glennsgirl762 - Off the subject, but we are a family of 5 also. Look into renting a cabin in FW. I realize that during the peak Spring break season they are now $299 (w/out tax) but we have justified the cost by eating breakfast, many lunches and a few dinners right in the cabins. We always bring snacks into the parks in our fanny packs.

It has a full kitchen, bedroom w/ a queen & bunks & a murphy bed in the "living area". 2 TV's, one in the bedroom & a VCR in the "living area". A large deck to relax outside. 2 nice pools, a game room & snack bar at the main pool. Outdoor campfire & movie program at night + many, many more amenities that we love. Full housekeeping every day. It is nothing like a "cabin in the woods".

It is our favorite place to stay. We think it is expensive, but less than getting 2 rooms at a moderate & less than a large room at a deluxe. I think the only thing less expensive would be an All Star & then you'd have 2 baths, however, the All Stars are extremely loud & busy. FW is very quiet & relaxing.

Thanks everybody for giving me very useful information. I am definately not buying the book!! There is alot of information right here at these forums. And we get feedback plus everyone is always so nice. And Melsmice I am going to look into the cabins at FW. Thanks again!! :earsgirl:

Melsmice:

We love the cabins. But be forewarned there is now only 1 TV in the living room. It still worked very well for our Christmas visit. Things I'd recommend you bring: Salt and pepper, coffee and filters, cups for bathroom, and a cookie sheet if you use the new disposable ovenware as I did.

We love Ft Wilderness for the family of 5!!!

What happened to the TV in the bedroom?

Also, as far as salt & pepper & other condiments. The first time we stayed there we bought all that, then ended up throwing a lot of 3/4 full bottles in the trash. Now we just take extra condiments from the condiment bars when we eat at a counter service restaurant. Save money & also we don't waste as much.

I know it sounds cheap but I hate throwing all that food away at the end of a trip.

Why don't you check your local library for the book? Our library carries all the disney guide books, even the newest ones. They also carry disney movies and cd's that we use when we need a disney fix!

The biggest cost savings to be realized is staying offsite. a two bedroom condo will cost about 700 with tax. I assume you will have a car. a little geo metro or similar costs about the same as shuttles for 4 people. Then bringing frozen drinks to the park will save the next most.

Hi,
My sister booked a 5 bedroom home that was absolutely beautiful in May. It was fully equipped: kitchen, towels, linen, washer, dryer, pool and jacuzzi. We only brought food. It was $125.00 per night and an $80.00 clean up fee. The longer you stay the cheaper it is, because the $80.00 is the same for 1 day or 10. We split that bill between our 5 families and we each paid about $70.00. Checkout was at 11:00, but the man let us stay as long as we wanted on the last day, because the cleaning crew wasn't coming in. We were there 3 days, 2 nights. We were VERY close to DW, too. Let me know if you need info and i'll ask her who she booked it with.
:)

Glennsgirl - The Orlando Magic Card is free and has loads of dining and accomodation discounts. All you need to do is request it from the tourist board. It has discounts for NASA and parks other than Disney. It's worth requesting even if you don't use it because it's the right price - nada!

No one is a sucker, you just spent tuition on life! We all buy things that later we regret. I paid rack rate on a WDW resort before I knew about codes. I'm just grateful that I found codes for our last trip. It's just TUITION! If you lend the book to others or donate it to your library it's worth a lot to others who don't have a computer!
