I just wanted to let everyone know that everything went great with the kid’s surgeries yesterday!
The Hospital really was packed. We overheard the check-in man talking to his colleague about how they have not seen this many surgeries in one day in the past three years. Apparently the record was 40 in one day and today they were in the 30s. If you think about it, it makes sense….by this time of the year many folks have met their deductible so they figure they should go ahead and take care of things prior to the New Year but before Christmas.
Even with so many people the place was ran REALLY efficiently. We were impressed by each staff member we met. Our nurse, Linda was really sharp. The anesthesiologist, "Dr. Keith" was great and Dr. Clyne was awesome! They each talked to us at length and walked us through the whole thing. We felt like pros by now!
Unfortunately Dr. Clyne was not able to able to fit Siennah in for surgery, he tried. He said that ideally she needs to have tubes too but given the time crunch the Biaxcin should kick in and she should be a okay for the flight. Getting her to swallow the wretched medicine is a tall order. We have to restrain her and squirt it into the back of her throat and force her to swallow it….not fun!
We are forever grateful to Dr. Clyne for doing this for us. He does not usually do surgeries on Thursdays and pulled strings to get us in so the kids could fly on Saturday in time for Sebastian’s Make A Wish trip. I kept thinking of him as my Ty Pennington... the poor man was acosted with no less than four hugs from me yesterday.
We definitely have walked a rocky road this year but God has always provided a way for us to get through it.
Here are some pictures from yesterday…
We placated Savannah with the paci all we could but she was HUNGRY!!!
My MIL's help was invaluable as usual. She kept Siennah while Brian and I manned the kids in the PACU. Brian, worked from home till we had to leave and even answered calls in the van enroute and in the waiting room.
Each of our "Surgical Team" members introduced themselves.
As they walked off with Savannah to the O.R. I told them to take good care of my baby girl!
Then it was time to get Sebastian ready.
It was funny to hear Sebastian saying "Pus-Ox" today....he meant "Pulse-Ox" but I think he thought it was "Pus" because we kept talking about pus in his ears.
Nurse Linda was great! I don't know how she kept it all straight. She only managed to write in the wrong chart once...ha ha!
Sebastian drinking his Versed.
Here is Savannah in the PACU. Dr. Clyne said she had a "rip roaring" infection in both ears. He said he sucked a LOT of thick white pus out of her ears. Poor love she should feel better now.
I could see Sebastian come in across the hall from me. They let Brian come back and be with him when he was "stage 2" and off of oxygen. I got to go back and be with Savannah right away though. Dr. Keith and Dr. Clyne actually walked me back to the PACU before going to do Sebastian's tubes. They joked that we got the surgical "dream team" --sure felt that way!
We had to move Savannah to a priavate PACU room with a door because when she came out of the anesthsia she was crying and another patient that who had just had a DNC thought that it was her baby crying
I was really happy she was awake. I kept asking the nurse when could I feed her. She was sooo hungry from not getting to eat since the night before. When I finally did get to nurse she breast fed and then sucked down the 7 ounce bottle I had pumped for her in the morning.
Sebastian did NOT end up having his adenoids taken out because it turned out he doesn't even have ANY! Crazy I know but Dr. Clyne says that sometimes they see that.
At one point I just started to chuckle. Brian and I sat across the hall from each other each with one of our post operative children and it just struck me as funny. I know it's not but really, what else it there left to do but laugh? It's been such a ridiculous year.
We all had popsicles! Sebastian's was blue...can you tell?
2/3 of my heart.
My packing list is down to one page....I can do it...I can do it!
