I know you can pay the 60 dollars and feed the dolphins, touch, and do some tricks with the trainers, but is there a way to feed and touch the dolphins without paying? The website makes it seem like there is a place to do that. I think I also read on the boards here somewhere that they have feeding times for the dolphins that you can find out about when you first get there?? :confused3 I am trying to decide whether to do dining with Shamu or the dolphin 60 dollar thing. :)

Oh, and on a side note, does anyone know if they stop doing the dining with Shamu after summer? I can't get my date to work that we are going to be there, it stops at September 16, 2012.

Thanks a banana bunch for any info!!

Wellllllp, here's the deal. At the dolphin exhibit, it is built so that in some locations you can stick your hands in and feel a dolphin if it swims up to you. Guess what... They almost never swim up to you haha. If they are having a feeding, then you can buy a tray of 3 fish I believe and that will increase your odds that a dolphin will come over, but really if you want a guaranteed interaction, you'll have to pay for it.

We were there last June and we paid 5 bucks to feed and pet the dolphins. The time was basically when the park opened. They announced it over the PA system ( thats how we found out about it) I heard on the news a few weeks back that its free now. Havent been, so cant confirm that though. :confused3

You can still touch the dolphins for free, but I'm pretty sure that since they changed the dolphin area from Rocky Point Preserve to Dolphin Point you can't buy fish anymore. I have a pass and go often, the last time being on the 4th, and since the change have yet to see them selling fish. If you want to pet and feed them you now have to pay for the dolphin encounter. With the dolphin encounter you don't go into the water, while with the dolphin interaction you go into the water with the dolphins.

As far as dinning with Shamu goes:
We had annual passes that just expired in May. When we went in January there were still dinning times, but there were fewer of them. So, yes, I believe this is done all year long.

I'm pretty sure that the only feeding opportunities for non-experience add-ons are for the Rays and the Sea Lions. At least that was what they told us when we were there this memorial weekend.
