The tourists in Central Florida whose vacations had yet to end waded ahead with their fun, determined to not let Hurricane Charley ruin their trips.

In the wake of the most powerful storm to strike Florida since 1992, the region's theme parks reopened while its busy airport coped with delays and damage.

Walt Disney World opened the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios, but staff shortages kept Animal Kingdom closed. On Disney property, only the occasional fallen tree betrayed Charley's passage.

Despite a steady rain falling, the Sumandal family of Marlboro, N.J. went ahead with their plans - a visit to Downtown Disney, then dinner before the Cirque du Soleil show.

"This is the only vacation we have, so we might as well enjoy it," said William Sumandal, sheltered by an umbrella held by his son John. "Otherwise, it messes up the whole year."

Fifty inspectors at Universal Studios Orlando checked all the rides and ruled them safe before the theme park opened Saturday.

SeaWorld Orlando was forced to close a show because of storm damage. High winds damaged a roof of a pavilion at the theme park but there were no other reports of major damage at SeaWorld.

I was wondering what they do with the whales, dolphins, sea lions etc during a hurricane. I guess they're okay as long as they're in the water? I would be worried about falling debris. Does anyone know?
