Going to Discovery Cove in May. Since it comes with the 7 days damission to one of these parks, I was wondering if anybody has an opinion about which one to go to?

First time, and can't wait

Any info. would be appreciated :jumping1:
Thanks

With it being your first time, I would say Sea World.

However it depends on what tickets you are buying. We are going to DC too and opted for the Busch Garden tickets because we already knew we were going to buy the 4 park flexpass (Universal, IoA, SW and Wet n Wild) access for 14 days, so we only needed Busch Garden tickets.

Use it for SWF.

Stay at the Renaissance which is directly across the street from SWF and just around the corner from DC.

You'll want to see the Shamu show, and pet the dolphins in the Key West area.

Hiya

I went to SW & BG just once each in Oct 2002 and if I could only return to one it would be BG without a doubt.

When I go in July 2005 I will be going to both, but that's becasue I can.

Really depends on what you after as the two cannot be compared. I much prefer the rides at BG and the style. Hopefully SW will impress me a bit more this time around but if it doesnt then it simply wont appear on my future itineries.

Rennaissance is nice, however, if its not in your budget, stay at the Hilton Garden Inn (right next door)... small hotel, but VERY clean, free internet, nice (but small) pool. Just a thought if you've spent all your $$ at SW.

BG is great if you are into roller coasters- if anyone in your party isn't, they might be bored. (I know... my son HATES BG for that reason)

I would say it really depends on the age of all going. We live on the East Coast of Florida and have the gold pass so can go to either park whenever we want. We go to SW more because it is closer; but wish BG was closer because we really love that park. If you like coasters----hands down go to BG! They have the coasters and a new one my guys can't wait to ride opens in May. That said. My husband and I don't ride coasters anymore. We still love BG and so do our sons. The coasters are just a +. It is a big park with lots of animals to see. There are some excellent shows and the food is fantastic at several of the restaurants. We usually opt for the Colony House requesting window tables and sometimes eating on the porch. I think it is a 5 star rated restaurant and you can watch the animals of the Serrengetti while you eat.
You do have to do a lot of walking at BG, but there is also a train and sky ride that takes you through area where animals are. Even though we have done the Rhino ride every time, we still enjoy it as if it were the first time. Well worth the wait.
The Haunted LightHouse 3-d show is hokey but kind of fun if first time or with people there for the first time.
The Katonga show is my favorite. The singers are all wonderful.
My second favorite show is the corny Moroccan Roll sort of a rock and roll spoof. We usually end the night there while the sons ride coasters over and over cause they refuse to sit through this show<g>
BG has a huge kids area and an aviary that you can go in and feed the birds. We saw the bird show for the first time in years and years last trip there and it was very good.
If you manage to be there at the right time(which varies by temps and time of year) the chimps at Myombe reserve are so much fun to watch. They come up to the windows and interact with kids all the time.
When you walk through the area with lions and hyenas watch the lions. They can see the hyenas from their compound and will often stalk and then attack ---the window they see them through. LOL
And if it rains while you are there and ruins the day you can get free pass to return another day. Also listen to the music the park plays during rain storms. We got a kick out of it. We were there one time when it poured for about an hour. They played rain songs like "Walking in the rain" "Don't rain on my parade" etc. and a song that gave good advice about finding shelter from the lightning etc.
And did I mention the food??? LOL It isn't the typical theme park food except for at the big Zagora cafe where you can get burgers etc.
Of course there is also the beer school, free samples, and the Clydesdales to add to the day there.
The last time we were there they were still working on the road to the parking lots which makes getting into the park a little slower. Hopefully that is completed now and the arrival to park has been made easier for everyone going.
If you have a pass, there is a bus you can take from Orlando for about $5 or $10 to BG if you would rather not drive the 11/2-2 hour drive from Orlando. We have never gone this route and not sure where the pick up points are except for Sea world. It is worth looking into if you don't have a car or would rather not do the driving to Tampa.

Wow! Thanks for all the info and opinions.

As for our stay ~ We're staying at the Hard Rock the whole time we're there and traveling to Discovery one day and then whichever park (SW/BG) for the one day by taxi (I don't think the shuttles will get us there early enough.)

My kids are 16,14,11. I live in the Northeast and we have a really GREAT aquarium closeby that we've been too many times over the years. They have a nice dolphin, seal, and penguin show.I didn't know if we'd get more of a variety going to Busch Gardens seeing-as-though we are spending the day with the fishes at Discovery

Keep your opinions coming. I will take them all into consideration and probably decide while down there.

We also live in the Northeast and have been to the New England Aquarium many times and it's wonderful! However, Sea World is totally different and I would highly recommend it! It has 2 thrill rides, which are great and an arctic simulator ride. The shows are first class and all of the exhibits are wonderful! We've also been to Busch Gardens and it is also a great park - although my roller coaster-crazed family only gave it an "okay" rating.

Just wanted to let you know that Sea World shouldn't be compared to an aquarium - check their website for info. We also did a behind the scenes tour and got to pet a penguin - what a thrill! BTW, you'll love DC and your kids are at great ages for it (mine were 16, 12 and 10)!

SeaWorld wins every time. Make sure it's the first park you see as well, as it sets the scene for Disney and Universal. Busch is a nice park to see when you've done the rest.

IMO, if you REALLY like roller coasters, you'll probably enjoy BG. If you don't like roller coasters at all, BG is a terrible park in every aspect. Their other rides are all terribly outdated (and they weren't very fun to begin with). They have the worst employees outside of a Six Flags park. It takes them ages to load and unload people from certain rides. They don't care if your restraints are on correctly. Sometimes they're too busy chatting with each other to even remember to send the coaster trains out of the station, especially on Gwazi, which btw, will give you the biggest headache of your life. The park isn't even that great for animal encounters anymore.

I'd rather pay to get into SeaWorld than be payed to go to Busch Gardens. I'm still in disbelief that they're owned by the same company.

I just returned from our weekend at SWO/DC/BG. We did the add on combo package to give us both parks & 14 days. We live in Tampa so we'll reuse the BG at least once with our kids so it was worth it for us. I loved SWO, Dh & I separate so he can ride rollercoasters so I fed sea lions and the dolphins. We did the polar expedition and it was really neat. I loved the Shamu show and Seamour show was a lot of fun!

BG is great if you like the coasters but otherwise it feels like there is something missing there. We went just Dh & I and I was pretty bored. We did the Beer School (since we wouldn't be able to w/ the kids) and the 3 water rides were fun but the animal train was lame and there were no real rides in between rollercoasters and kiddie rides that we could do together. Will go with the kids but wouldn't pay full price for this park when Disney & Universal is just an hour away!

I thought Discovery Cove admission ONLY came with 7 days admission to SeaWorld :confused3

Anyway, SeaWorld is far superior to Busch Gardens and a lot closer :cheer2:

Trev

No, Discovery comes with 7 day admission to EITHER seaworld or Busch Gardens.

I think it will be Seaworld ~ I'd like to stay close by. I didn't realize Busch Gardens was an hour away :bitelip:

Thanks for all your input :wave2: :goodvibes :wave2:

DC comes with the choice of SWO or BG for 7 days - but there is an add-on option of a combination to both parks for 14 days- dh & I chose that one since we live in Tampa and wanted to avoid sunday traffic on 1-4 back to Tampa so we chose to go to BG on sunday and this way we can take our kids next week as well. It was an additional $30 each for the combo add on- but that is less than the BG admission so it was a good option for us
