Seattle folks - can you walk to the Aquarium from Pike Place Market?

June 24 is Seattle PrideFest at Seattle Center. It literally attracts like 100,000 people to the festival throughout the whole Seattle Center grounds which goes until the evening. Another 250,000 or so watch the Pride Parade on 4th Avenue which begins about 11am. Doing Seattle Center on Saturday would avoid all of the crowds.
This is one of the reasons why I love these Boards! What an invaluable piece of information!! :thumbsup2

Sayhello

If you're curious, see what is playing in the Cinerama that weekend.

It is one of only 4 remaining in the world, and if there's something you want to see, there's no cooler place to see it than at the Cinerama.

I have enjoyed the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus around Seattle, and the Underground Tour in Pioneer Square: http://www.undergroundtour.com/. The Experience Music Project was worth doing...once. If you like clam chowder - be sure to eat at Ivar's: http://www.ivars.com/.

Ivars is great! There is a water front Ivars right next to the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, where you can (and are encouraged to) feed the seagulls! If you are feeling brave you can hold a french fry in your hand, and they will come down and take it!:thumbsup2

We did our Alaska Cruise in 2008 thru DVC using Holland America (never again until I'm 90!) and stayed in Seattle for 2 days. The best thing that we did was the underground tour. Not for young kids but we had two 13 yr olds with us and everyone loved it. :thumbsup2

While at Pike Place Market, take a minute and take the kids to the "Gum Wall". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gum_Wall It brings new meaning to the phrase, "just look, don't touch"! :crazy2: It's near the Flying Fish, so just ask and they will be able to give you directions. Our DS9 has never really enjoyed taking in the market, but he still talks about the Gum Wall. Bring some bubble gum!!!

I totally second the Gum Wall - the kids would have fun - there is a gumball machine right there so bring some quarters, have everyone chew up a piece of gum and have fun adding to the "work of art" - you will get some very fun and memorable pictures.

Yes, the Underground Tour is fantastic! I agree though, not good for the toddler set nor is it good for those with breathing troubles as the air is quite stale and musty.

I took this tour and it was intreasting but the air was verry musty. Have you thought about seeing a Seattle mariner game sure they aren't the best players but they are fun and also they have garlic fries. ALSO CHECK THE WEATHER. jUNE CAN BE VERRY WET. around here we don't tan we rust.:happytv:

You have to go to Beechers hand made cheese. Their mac and cheese was on Oprah and it's soooo good:worship:

Have fun

:rotfl: the garlic fries are also our selling point to get everyone to go to Mariner games! :rotfl: They are AMAZING fries!!

The restaurant at the Warwick has the BEST BEST coffee in the morning. Stayed there when my best friend got married in Seattle.

Also, for something quick, Top Pot Donuts is amazing and only about 2 blocks from the Warwick.

The location of the Warwick is my favorite neighborhood in Seattle (Belltown). Close to everything, but a little quieter than some neighborhoods. My best friend lived there for a few years and I was lucky enough to be up there visiting once a month.

You'll have to backtrack into downtown to catch the monorail. We actually would sometimes just walk right to the monorail. Its really not nearly as far as it looks so the monorail ride is pretty brief.

It looks like they are close from the map, but I didn't know if you can do it or not.

And how about my itinerary:

Friday, June 22 - arrive Seattle at 6 pm.
Check into the Warwick Hotel:http://www.warwickwa.com/
Dinner at the hotel.

Saturday, June 23 - Pike Place Market and Seattle Aquarium
Walk over to Pike Place Market. Coffee at Starbucks, breakfast at Le Panier (both at North End)
Go to Pike Place Fish at Main Arcade, watch them throw fish.
Wander around until lunch at Pike Place Chowdar, at Triangle Building and Post Alley Market.

Go to Seattle Aquarium. Stay until dinner.

Go back to Pike Place for dinner at Etta's.

Sunday, June 24 - Seattle Center
Take monorail to Seattle Center.
Go up Space Needle.
Go to EMP/Science Fiction museum
Go to Pacific Science Center.
Need a suggestion for lunch?

Then dinner at Dahlia Lounge.

Monday, June 25 - head to cruise.

Please make sure you don't miss Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe! It's a Seattle favorite and it's down by the water. All of this is within walking distance. If you are able - please try to fit in the Underground Tour of Seattle -- it's amazing!!!

I haven't been back there in a couple years - to those who are, is either Ivar's or the Greek restaurant still by the Aquarium for these nice folks to have lunch?

If it were up to me, I would just get lunch at the Market -- so much to try (make sure you get some salmon belly jerky --- BEST THING EVER INVENTED!!!)

I almost forgot - when you are at Pike Place Market - ask for directions to The Bead Shoppe. When you are there, ask the owner to tell you about how the store is haunted....one of the best experiences ever, a story you won't forget!:wizard:

Thanks, EVERYONE, for more helpful tips and suggestions!

Based on what I've heard, we will try to make the Underground Tour and Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe priorities!

Also, good to hear positive reviews on the Warwick, since I sort of booked it "blind".

As for the Mariners, sorry but we are not baseball fans, but the garlic fries DO sound yummy!!!

Haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if someone has mentioned this - there are pedi-cabs all over the place there that will take you from pike place to the aquarium for about $10 and its lots of fun!

Does anyone know approximately how much a cab from the Pike place area to pier 91 will run? We haven't signed up for DCL transport because even for just the 2 of us, I think a cab will be cheaper(DCL being around $35pp). Am I right?

Although from the pier to the airport I might want to consider DCL?

If it's a terribly cloudy, rain day - don't waste your time going up the needle unless you really really want to go up there. The best part is the view and there won't be one if it's too cloudy.

The aquarium is overrated, IMO, unless you really like aquariums. :) We can go here and be out in about 30 minutes... but I guess it depends on your kids.

EMP is AWESOME and like nothing you've ever experienced at any other museum. You will have a great time here.

Science center is ok, we go about once a year because I keep thinking it's fun in my head, but then we get there and I think "Why do I always think there are more things here??" LOL

DO THE DUCK TOUR!!!! Also, the Seattle Underground tour is totally awesome. I've taken my 5 year old on it and she loved it. No strollers, though - don't know how old your kids are. Definitely get a donut from Top Pots!

If I were you, I'd do this instead on Sunday:

Explore Pike Place. (SKip Starbucks unless you're a huge fan. It's not any different than any other Starbucks anywhere). You can spend a couple hours to an entire day here depending on what you want to see and how much you want to shop.

Eat Lunch.

Go do the Ducks Tour: http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/ - You'll see all of Seattle and learn a ton!
Then do the Seattle Underground Tour.

Dinner at Etta's.

---

So I guess my overall opinion is do your best to fit the ride the ducks tour and seattle underground. Skip the Aquarium.

See, I *love* the Science Center and find EMP a bore--I think it is all about what interests you.

Is the Warrick the place of choice to stay the night before??
Any other recommendations for a good reasonable place to stay the night before? That is close? Will want one that will shuttle you over
