One night this past week coming home from MK the BC bus was packed. DH and I were standing as well as an elderly women. Anouther family had their look like about 6 year old son sleeping on two seats I realy think she could have put him on her lap or leaned him against her so he only took up one seat. Her DH remained seated and elderly women remained standing. My DH always gives his seat up. Am I wrong to think this is not right?

I completely agree. We all need to be more respectful of others and parents need to set good examples for their children. A little respect goes a long way.

MAJOR pet peeve of mine!

Back when my DD16 was 2, I remember standing on the bus back to POR, holding her sleeping and men never offered me their seats! Lots of women standing and lots of men sitting. I thought that was incredibly rude. Chivalry was dead on that trip.

I gave up my seat so many times on our last trip, to mothers with small children. And we always at least sat with our youngest in our lap, once the bus started to fill up. Again, I witnessed things like what you're talking about and once again, men sat while a bunch of women stood. :confused3

ETA: Before anyone gets undies in a bunch, or chokes on their popcorn, I'm referring to mothers with small children, and older women. I don't expect a man to give up his seat for someone like me, for instance.

We were on a bus so crowded from DTD to POR (it stormed no boat) one time that DS (then 12) even sat on my lap.

I've held a sleeping kiddo while I was on the bus. It wasn't even an option(to me) for him to have his own seat, since I could easily hold him for the duration.

Watch out, things tend to heat up whenever this subject comes up! popcorn::

I don't expect a man to give up his seat for me. But I expect a man or a woman to give up their seat for an elderly, a small child, and a parent holding a small child. Small children are very light and can get hurt easily even after a sudden stop.

I would never let my sleeping kid take up 2 seats! I can't even imagine letting my 4 yo take up a seat if others were standing. I know that most think it is o.k. for a man to sit, but my dh would never do it. He would feel like a jerk sitting there in a seat while a mom with a toddler stood.

I was mainly referring to mothers with children, or older women.

I didn't expect a man to give up his seat for me, except that time when I was holding a sleeping two year old. It's sort of hard to hold on when the bus moves, when you have your arms full.

I guess I should clarify my earlier post.

I totally agree. We used Disney busses for the first time and were pleasantly surprised we only had one "incident". While leaving MGM after fantasmic the line was understandably long. Well while the bus driver was loading on a woman and her electronic scooter this guy thought that would be a good time to walk on the bus through the back door. When we got on the bus another person who waited on line like everyone else inquired as to what made this guy so special that he did not have to wait online. The line cutter was suprisingly mute about the subject.

Well, when I was on the bus...
You know those young kids...
Parents should never...
I had been standing all day...
I always was taught to...
I will wait for the next...
Some of those DRIVERS will just...
We had a wheel-chair to board and by then...
We waited for two extra buses just wo we could...
I have never...
We always rent a car because...
(hidden Mickey here)
Why can't Disney provide enough...
There are never enough buses when we stayed at...
When will people just learn to...
If you wait to leave until...
If you leave just before...
We park-hop and the buses are...
If you think the buses are bad, just try leaving the parking lot at...
If you think the buses are bad, just try boarding the monorail at...
If the buses had more...
If folks would not stay until their children were...
One time the bus was so fulll that...
We finally had just gotten a seat when...
The driver waited for one more and, wouldn't you know it...
We were almost to the bus stop when...

I give up my seat for the elderly, the pregnant, the children, those with disabilities (like with crutches or leg braces, etc.) and anyone else I know would appreciate the sit-down.

Needless to say, I stand a lot. But I also am proud to do so. :thumbsup2

Robo, love all your posts :rotfl2:

That is so funny I think I have heard them all!!!!! I was very proud of my 8 yr old Daughter on our last trip she gave her seat up for a little 3 yr old boy and his mom. She just held the hand rail on the back of the seat and an older couple complimented on the manners of my daughter. It is a nice feeling when things like that happen and others notice. I was very proud. But yes not everyone has the morals we like to instill in our children. I can sleep at night we try our best even if or best isn't perfect!!!

I generally will give up my seat for someone with a young kid or an elderly person.

However, I'm going to have to be the dissenting voice here and say that anyone who gets on a full bus should expect to stand. I don't think it's rude for people to choose not to make themselves uncomfortable just so someone else can be comfortable. It's kindhearted and generous for them to do so, but IMHO, not doing so isn't something that makes them less polite. In fact, I tend to think if you board a full bus expecting that someone else will let you sit, well- that's rude, IMHO. Wait for the next bus if you need to sit.

I have an opinion on this, but will just say that I found it really interesting on our last trip that young men offered to give up their seats more often than older men and by older, I do not mean elderly. The man that was most chivalrous was a 20 year old firefighter from Boston. He looked tough as nails, but was so sweet to my boys. :thumbsup2

I don't think anyone on here mentioned that they expected to get a seat, unless I missed something in a post. I think the OP was just shocked that an adult would allow a kid to take up two seats and leave other people standing.

My comment was about people not giving up their seats to people who genuinely have a need for them. I've stood on so many buses it's not even funny. As a matter of fact, to me, it's just a part of going to Disney. You do what you gotta do.
