Seating for mobility-impaired mom

Mom and I are flying Continental Airlines for a quick trip in March. Mom is nearly 6 ft tall, and pooh-sized. She has multiple chronic ailments, but on a plane is most worried about her knee. Her left knee doesn't bend very much at all. She has a cane. We have our seats already assigned, but I know from flying continental recently that her leg is not going to fit spread in front of her. What do I tell her to do? ANyone!

Call Continental NOW, see if you can switch to bulkhead seating for her knee, although with the fixed armrests she may not be able to fit comfortably in the seat. On the other hand, there's NO chance of overflow - a typical issue on Southwest
Also, see www.seatguru.com for your particular plane's layout, and advice on which seats are 'best' and which are 'worst'.

I'd suggest contacting the special services department at Continental and ask.
I looked at their website and there isn't a "Contact Us" link or phone number for Special Needs, but you should be able to get someone in that department by calling the regular number. They might be able to give you information about whether any particular seats have more leg room than the seats you are already assigned. I know the exit rows do have more room, but she would not be able to sit there because of her disability. The bulkheads usually have more leg room (but on some flights apparently they are exit rows).
