We're going on our first DCL cruise July 19, 2003. Our TA didn't ask if we wanted a table to ourselves (me, my husband and our 14 year old son) or if we wanted to be seated with others. How does this work? I would rather sit with other people who have teenagers.
They have tables for four or tables for eight. I was a party of two and did not want to sit with strangers. Someone suggested to sit at a table for eight, the more people at the table the less you have to talk to them. Disney arranges it so that families sit with families and people without children sit with other people without children. So if you decide to sit with other people, you will most likely sit with someone your childs age).
I'm another with a teenager who does NOT want to sit with people with kids who aren't teens. I chose late seating so taht the chances would be lessened. If I am seated with little ones I'll discretely ask to be switched. I'm just past that point in my life. no offense to anyone, I'm sure that there are lots of well behaved little ones out there. It's just my luck that I'd end up with Pukey and Whiney at my table.
Our family of 5 went on our first cruise this past Oct. We had the early seating and our kids at the time were 13, 10, and 8. We ended up sitting with a much older couple (no kids). Though I would have preferred a couple with a child, these people were very friendly and we had a great time with them. So i just assumed it was a random seating pairing.

Your party of 6 will problably be at a table alone unless the ship is full they may seat at party of 2 with you. When we sailed in Jan. there was 3 in our party and we were paired with another party of 2 so there was a couple of empty chairs at our table.
We are a family of 4, and I requested a table for 4 last year. Our request was honored and it was wonderful! Again, no offense to the many wonderful people who sail on Disney ships, we just like having the "family time", where we can chat together and not have to make small talk. I have made the same request for this year, and I will make no small issue of it if my request is not granted again!! It's kinda like family time at home, where we have dinner together and discuss our day - only on the ship, instead of discussing school and work, we discuss snorkelling and ice cream!! It's an important thing to us, and I think if a person is persistent enough, you get what you want. They really do go out of their way to keep you happy.
Its sad, but in our house with the three kids going in differnet directions each night, we probably only sit down together one night a week for dinner. I think it would be great to have a table for the five of us...just us. How would I go about that? I booked thru Disney so I guess I just call them and request it? I hope they can honor our request.
We have a group of 12... I wonder how that will work.. hmmm
Already talked to the kids... we will all be having dinner together ever night except then night the adults go to palo.. This cruise will be the first time my dad will have all his grandkids around at once and want t make it as special as we can.. this means dinner every night together. We will be doing different excursions and things on the boat
On our cruise in February, we were seated at a table for 10. I don't think there are very many of these, but I did think that it took a long time for our (great) server to take our orders and serve the food. We seemed to be one of the last tables to finish our meals every night.
On our first cruise our family of 4 was seated at a table for 4 (but I didn't make any type of special request). On our 2nd cruise we were seated at a table for 10 but it was only our family of 4 and a mother and son sailing alone.
I think Disney does a pretty good job at trying to seat people together that have the same family scope.
When my DH and I were on our honeymoon in 09/98 on the Magic we had late seating and we sat with 2 other couples that were also on their honeymoon (we found out that we were all married the same day). We had something in common so it made it easy for us to just talk and have a good conversation.
We are going on the Wonder 11.03.02 with a VERY BIG family group (21 people, included are 2 toddlers and 1 infant) and we have early seating, I am wondering how they are going to seat us - I hope we are all together!!

I know that there are tables of 4, 6, 8, and some had 10!! I was at a table of 8 but i went with 8 people so i sat with the people i came with. Your son is going to have alot of fun in the teen place because i did!!
And we had a table for 6 last November...the 4 of us, plus an aunt and uncle who coincidentally booked the same cruise!! Most of the time, though, the kids ate with the kids' club.
On our first DCL cruise, we were the first to arrive at a table for six. It was just the two of us. We sat down and the server addressed me by my last name. How could he know my name? A few minutes later a family of four joined us and he addressed the Mom also by her last name. It was the same last name as ours. Everyone at the table of six had the same last name.
They were from Calif and we were from NJ. They had two beautiful teenage daughters with them and we had a great time. The girls ususally left early so we stayed and chatted with the parents and really enjoyed our table mates.
Disney is really good at seating parties with similar parties. In 19 cruises, we have always ended up on the TAP rotation and have only had kids at our table 2 or 3 times (fortunately, we lucked out all of those times and the kids were GREAT...we had a lot of fun with them). The times we were seated with families tended to be holiday cruises, when the kid population was much larger than usual. The only time we ever HATED our seating arrangements was when we ended up alone at a table. We don't have kids so we alone eat together every day of our lives. We really welcome the opportunity to sit and chat with others. We even have photos of almost all our tablemates and servers from all our cruises.

I am married but will be going solo on the May 12 cruise and am anxious to see how they will seat me. I've never had kids but enjoy those who are well-behaved, particularly if they are cute little kids, Disney fans, or can converse intelligently (older kids). I have late seating. I am thinking being with a family might be better than sitting with romantic couples and feeling like even more of an intruder. This could be interesting . . .
I really think seating arrangements are luck of the draw. We have booked our cruises at least a year in advance and have requested a certain rotation . My hubby and I do not have any children and were seated with families with young children on 2 out of 3 cruises. We also were not given the dining rotation we requested, at least they did give us main seating. I am glad that the families we were seated with were nice and we made the most out of it.
I didn't know that a family of 4 could get its own table. I'm not going to request a table for just the four of us, but I wonder if they'll look at the fact that we'll have an infant (9 1/2mo) and toddler (2 1/2) and realize that no one else will want to sit with us! (although it wouldn't be bad. My kids are used to sitting through hour long dinners - without entertaining Disney servers - and are very well behaved.)
