I'm soooooooooooo excited!!!!
Unless someone else already beat me to it, I'm considering this the Official Thread (because I'm the show's biggest :cheer2:)

Here are the contestants.
Info condensed from the Food Network's website. The website includes pics, bios, casting videos... and there is also a feature in the June issue of Food Network Magazine.

Alicia Sanchez - 33 - This upbeat New Yorker loves to put her own spin on everyday dishes. After graduating from culinary school, Alicia opened her own bakery. She now teaches cooking to young adults.

Chris Nirschel - 28 - This 'culinary bad boy' creates exciting flavor profiles with confidence to boot. Though he's classically trained, he never uses recipes and comes up with his own bold dishes on the fly.

Howie Drummond - 40 - Howie worked in restaurants for seven years before winning a radio show that changed his life. Now he's a radio host, but his passion for food is as strong as ever.

Jeff Mauro - 32 - After pursuing a career as a comedian in Los Angeles, Jeff switched gears to spend time doing what he loves most: cooking. His down-to-earth personality coupled with his comic relief make a great combo in the kitchen.

Juba Kali - 29 - Juba thrives on combining tastes and elements from a variety of cultures. An energetic new father, he focuses on the science of food, drawing from his role as research chef at a spice company for inspiration.

Justin Balmes - 32 - Justin has worked on almost every level in the kitchen, from line cook to sous chef to executive chef. When he’s not concocting recipes with local ingredients, this adventure-seeker takes it outside for competitive cycling.

Justin Davis - This stay-at-home dad and food blogger draws from cookbooks for inspiration, but rarely follows a recipe. He values rustic cooking and favors bringing the farm to the table.

Jyll Everman - 31 - Jyll revels in comfort food and can turn any true classic into a scrumptious appetizer. She relays her “can-do” attitude to the students in the monthly classes she teaches.

Katy Clark - 34 - This energetic mother of three runs a food and fitness company. Inspired by the recipes of the women in her family and her restaurant experience over the years, Katy loves to make every dish her own.

Mary Beth Albright - 38 - This former attorney decided to follow her passion for food and now shares her expertise with others as a food writer and local expert for print and broadcast media.

Orchid Paulmeier - 38 - Orchid started her culinary career as an ice cream scooper in high school and only went up from there. An outspoken mother of three, she prides herself on her Southern barbecue.

Penny Davidi - 39 - This California native, a mother of two teenagers, grew up learning the art of cooking from the women in her family and used this knowledge as a launching pad to create her own innovative recipes.

Susie Jimenez - 31 - Susie began her relationship with food picking fruit with her parents who came to California from Mexico. She's now the owner of her own catering company and teaches cooking classes.

Vic "Vegas" Moea - 35 - Vic worked his way up the culinary ladder from dishwasher to executive chef. He learned to cook from his mother and grandmother in Brooklyn and today adds his modern Vegas flair to classic recipes from his childhood.

Whitney Chen - 28 - Whitney believes that anyone can incorporate advanced techniques into everyday meals that impress. A former engineering consultant, she quit her job to attend culinary school and worked her way up in esteemed NYC kitchens.

My cable provider has it listed as "Next Food Network Star." Interesting. Regardless...it's starting now!!!!

We absolutely CANNOT STAND Penny!!!! What a horrendous person!

We also can't stand Howie. What a jerk!

Penny needs to be the next off. She did not even talk to Alicia and hates her anyway. What a jerk!

I was expecting Right Said Fred's song to come up during her schtick...

I'm too sexy for my car
Too sexy for my car
Too sexy by far
And I'm too sexy for my hat
Too sexy for my hat
What do you think about that?
:rotfl2:

What's HYSTERICAL is there is NOTHING sexy about her :confused3

I like little Orchid, she's adorable. Alicia is already on my last nerve, how do these people get thru the audition??? Juba??? What???? :confused3:confused3

My brother and I were thinking the same thing as we watched. Don't quite understand how some of them make it. However, it did seem like, for the most part, people were a little more polished this season than in seasons past. Personally (and not just because he shares my name), I kind of like Jeff's concept of making favorite meals into sandwiches. Yeah, it might be too narrow a concept, but it sounds like a "guy's food show" and one that at least sounds a little different and interesting. [However, I think this is Orchid's to lose. Food Network is lacking an Asian-themed show and, much like last year's choice of Aarti, Orchid seems to give them a super-refreshing host with a concept that the network is in need of.]

On another note, I can't complain that Giada is playing a more prominent role this season. :thumbsup2

We also can't stand Howie. What a jerk!

:thumbsup2 again. He's a total jerk--I would not watch him even if he *could* cook!

I liked Orchid too and Whitney (although she reminds me of RR)

Poor Juba, in front of the camera he's just horrible so far! They say he can cook though and he seems nice so we'll see.

Can NOT stand Penny, she either needs to get out or cool it down, oh! and wear something that looks better on her.

Whitney is so good. Alicia & Juba really need to learn to speak in front of the camera!

Can't wait till next week's show!
