I cannot find my original post, maybe it got lost with the problems over the past few days. I am trying to convince my husband to do the Disney Cruise but he says that he gets seasick and does not want to risk it. He has never been on a cruise, just a ferry that he was very sick on and he also gets car sick very easily. Has anyone here had problems with seasickness/car sickeness and been ok on the cruise either with or without medication? I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone went on the cruise and was sick while on it. I'm almost ready to take the kids without him!

Well, when we went last October, there were VERY rough seas.I'm talking like 15-20 foot swells. It was horrible. My husband was sick quite a bit, and he has NEVER been sickened by motion before. I was woozy quite a bit, but was able to keep it quiet. I didn't want to tell anyone. I took dramamine less drowsy formula, and it helped, but didn't stop it totally. we had like 2 days of "calmer" seas, and we both felt fine. As a matter of fact, I am looking forward to trying it again, in a month that isn't in hurricane season. I'm thinking the summer months would be best. So, if you want him to go with you and have FUN, make sure you go during a time when there aren't bunches of storms in the carribean. FYI, what really set me off wuite a bit, ( I tend to get motion sickness) was looking out our window in our cabin, and when you walk down the halls, looking out the windows watching the water flying by... It helped if I wanted to look outside, if I looked off in the distance. But, being my first cruise I didn't know any better and looked straight down. Boy, big mistake.

Thanks, Wonderwoman. We were planning to go in August so hopefully we wouldn't hit too much bad weather. I would feel so awful if he ended up being sick. I am having second thoughts now.

We just returned from the 1/5 sailing the Disney Magic (7 night). While the seas weren't rough, we did feel more ship motion than we did on a previous cruise on another cruiseline. This was especially true on the outbound trip -- supposedly due to the wind directions (?). My DD(6) suffered from sea sickness all of day 2 and the morning of day 3 . After the first bout, we got her sea bands and dramamine from the shop on board. She did fine after that, although we kept her dosed with dramamine with the exception of the hours we spent on the islands (at her request). It didn't make her drowsy, thankfully. After she was medicated, she had a great time and is asking when we can go back. I felt queasy on occasion and popped a dramamine from time to time. Both my daughter and I are susceptible to motion sickness, so we propably should have been more prepared in her case. Have your husband talk to his doctor about scopolomine (? on the spelling), a little patch that can be worn behind the ear and releases medicine. Unfortunately, it is not recommended for children.

The best treatment for sea sickness in my opinion is fresh air -- while you may not want to look at the water, being on deck or the veranda is a great way to clear your head.

Good luck and enjoy the trip when you go.

goes from May 1 through the end of November. Double check this, but it seems to me that August is the busiest month for tropical weather systems. Who would have guessed that October would have been such a rough month for sailing, things have usually quieted down a lot. Just my 2 cents!! Good luck and happy sailing!
