I'm making plans for our 2nd annual "parents only, let's celebrate our anniversary and birthdays" all rolled into one. Originally I had booked a 3 night Disney Wonder cruise leaving on Thursday and getting back on Sunday. Well, I just found out that there is a special 4 night Magic cruise that's sailing Tuesday-Saturday during the same time. I checked with my DU agent and I was able to get the 4 night for $200 less. So what to do with the savings and the extra weekend day? Why spend a night at WDW of course. DH and I love the GF, but I want to try something different this time. Right away, I knew that I wanted AKL. It was perfect. We only had one night to stay there, so I wasn't concerned with transportation and it seemed like a quiet, romantic resort. I'm just about ready to send in the payment when I start questioning myself. Would a Boardwalk resort be better? Epcot is DH's favorite park and after 4 nights of quiet and romance on the cruise, we might actually enjoy some crowd interaction. Plus, there is the ESPN Zone nearby and I'm pretty sure that weekend will have the football divisional playoffs and I was reading up on the Illuminations cruise. I looked at the 5 resorts in that area and I'm really leaning towards the Yacht Club. Now I'd like to hear your concierge experience. I'd probably only use their pre-planning services for the Illuminations cruise. Is there a separate concierge check in or do you need to go through the front desk? If by chance anyone used the health club center, how was it? DH loves a good health club, especially those that offer steam, sauna and whirlpool.

Thanks for any and all help,
Tammi

Congratulations on your birthdays and anniversary!

We really love the YC because it is so close to Epcot!! The Boardwalk (and ESPN for DH) is a huge plus too! For our concierge service, we checked in at the front desk (which wasn't a problem - we were helped right away). After taking our belongings to our room, we we straight to the concierge lounge. The CM were ready to assist us right away with anything we would need for our trip. We didn't use a health club while we were there (other than the GF Spa, which was very nice!), but we did enjoy the services in the lounge - breakfast, wine before dinner, and after dinner drinks and desserts. It was so nice to have place that we could retreat too and enjoy some quiet and a relaxing drink.
The CM were great too, whether they were helping us with something or just giving a smile.

Hope that you have a great trip!!

Thanks for the quick reply Katie. What type of room did you have and did you have a full balcony? It's just DH and myself, so I'm hoping for a king bed. If we are able to book an Illuminations cruise, then it probably won't matter too much about the view anyway. I may just leave it all in the hands of the room assignor gods and take our chances. I'm honestly just hoping that our room will be ready early. It will probably only be about 10am when we arrive at the resort following the cruise. One nice thing about that area though, is that there's always something to do.

Tammi,
We had a view of the Boardwalk (beautiful!!) and had 1 bed (king I believe??). The balcony was great - two chairs and a table I think. We also enjoyed the balcony off the concierge lounge. It was a parking lot view, but lots of room, and we could take our snacks and wine out there. I'm not sure about the 10am check it - I think it depends on if your room is ready or not. You can always leave your stuff at the YC check in and go off and enjoy Epcot!

katie :)
