Do you use search engines such as Google to find information?

It appears that people are always asking questions on the DIS board that can be answered with a simple Google search; and it would be much faster than asking here and then waiting for a response. Why do you think that is?

For one thing, people enjoy making conversation with others. Sometimes when they post, they're not only looking for an answer, but for dialogue.

Also, answers on here are more personalized and experiences can be included. You can find that with google, too, but it will take longer to weed through all the responses.

If the question is something like, "who directed Ghost Busters?" a google search would probably be best, but I don't see many of those simple type of questions on here.

Why would it matter to anyone if a poster used google or not? If any one person doesn't want to answer any question, then don't. There is a back button, so use it.

::yes:: I agree. Simple questions should use Google.

There are other times it may not be clear what is the best search terms to input. Entering different phrases or words can yield different results, or no results at all. :scratchin Sometimes, I can spend 20 minutes entering in different words or phrases because I'm not sure how to explain what I really want.

Those are the times when coming here and telling the situation will get better answers. People who've had that experience will often articulate exactly what I mean and will give a variety of answers according to their experiences. Or they will give me new ideas on what to search for, to then get more detailed answers off Google. :surfweb:

Google is your friend.

::yes:: ::yes:: I LOVE Google. I use it around 30 times a day. I wish I had the money back when the stock first came on the market at $128 (or something like that.) I knew then, as I was personally using Google so much, it would be a great stock. It is now up to $583. :faint:

I've noticed & thought that myself. I can't live without google!

I will do a Google search for certain things but when I want opinions/first hand experience I turn to my trusted DISers. I figure I'll always get EVERY side of the story from the DIS! Plus, it's nice to make things more personal sometimes. :)

I am totally going to try this, what did you call it....Google? :rotfl2:

Maybe google can tell me how much internet access is at the resort I plan on staying..hey I think I am getting this!

I prefer Bing.

I like Bing better for shopping and product searches (including travel). I think Google does information search and image search better. Once the Yahoo/Microsoft deal is finished and Flikr is better integrated into Bing their image search will probably be better.

Bing Maps has a bird's eye view that is superior to the Google maps aerial view. I usually use that along with Google's street view to find something I am not familiar with.

A properly worded search string will set you free!

I often state that "Google" is my best friend! ;)

Search engines, though a wealth of information, state information in a "cut and dry" format. Revealing situations, while asking questions and/or opinions of others stirs emotion(s) and creates lively interaction with sometimes surprising outcomes!
