We want to do at least one nice seafood meal on our trip this August. By nice I don't necessarily mean atmosphere, I mean great food!

We have a reservation for dinner at Fulton's Crab House on the Saturday night of our trip, but I've heard so many mixed reviews of the place that I'm wondering if it'd be better to look into other options. On property, off property, bit of a drive, doesn't matter. We're going to Clearwater beach that morning, so we would consider anything in that direction as well.

We've budgeted $175 for this meal (including tax and tip) taking Fulton's prices into account. We want to get the ultimate seafood platter for two, either an appetiser or soup, and kids meals and dessert for the girls. I've heard if you stick to crab and lobster at Fulton's you can get a pretty good meal, and crab and lobster is pretty much what we're wanting to get!

It doesn't have to cater to children, but it should be somewhere that we can bring the girls to (five and almost eight) without getting funny looks. Which is also part of why I picked Fulton's - being on Disney property people won't think twice about kids being there.

Oh, and preferably not a chain, unless it's a local place that's really over the top awesome.

Landry's is very good and has a very nice playground outside while you wait.
Look up the website for directions, I remember how to get there just not street names.

Joe's Crab Shack is good and they have a playground too. (Edit: This is not a Landrys Group, Landry's has the Crab House.)

Landry's is a chain, but they have a partnership with Disney.(Landry's owns RainForest, T-rex, and Yak & Yeti)

I know Fulton's gets mixed reviews, but I always get good food and service there.

I don't know what type of seafood you are looking for, but Roy's in Orlando is fantastic. Its a Hawaiian style menu with quite a few fish dishes, and all are excellent. I would consider this place "over the top awesome".

Almost every restaurant in Orlando expects to get kids at some point or another, I mean hey it's the theme park capital of the world. We love the crab house and visit every time we are there. It's about 5 minutes from down town disney. Really good food.

We enjoy the Cape May Cafe Clam bake. The kids adore the kid buffet.

If you're still hungry for seafood when you get to Clearwater, head down Gulf Boulevard to St. Pete Beach, go past the huge pink hotel (Don CeSar, you can't miss it) and less than a mile down the road you turn right onto a beachfront road. On that corner, just on your left, is the Hurricane. It has quite possibly the best grouper sandwiches and other seafood around, along with some of the best sunset views of the Gulf you've ever seen! They have an outside deck, and it is very suited for children. Twenty some years ago, it was a beach shack with great food, now they've remodeled it into a very nice 4 story restaurant.

The atmosphere is Florida casual - I've seen everything from beach cover-ups to Versace.

Any local will be able to give you directions, its a very popular place with locals, and its where we always take our visitors when they want to go out.

Wow. When I did a search for this place, almost every single review I found was scathingly negative :( I'm not saying that makes what you have to say invalid! A lot of the time, the only time people bother to post reviews online is when they're unhappy, not when they're thrilled.

Their website also comes up with a message like "This website has been suspended".... ? Maybe we'll check it out again once we get closer to actually going there :) I can hang onto my ADR at Fultons until the day before, so it's not like I'd be losing anything!!

We just got back and regret not going to Sea Critters in St. Pete(also past the Don.) Several people (locals) had recommended it. We also ate at Fultons (with 4yo DD) and it was one of the best meals of our trip (excluding our lunch at the Earl of Sandwich- yum!)
