Sea World guest tickets purchased with annual pass

On the Sea World website under the annual pass section, it says the benefits include 50% off single-day guest tickets. Does anyone have any experience with this? ie. do you need to get the tickets in advance or can you purchase at the gate? Are there blackout dates for these discounted tickets?

My husband and I are going to Orlando in September, mainly for HHN and MNSSHP. Because they're night events, we're looking for something to do during the day so we were thinking we'd do 2 partial days at Sea World. I was originally going to get the Fun Pass but now I'm wondering if it's better to buy 1 annual pass (since it would include free parking and food discounts) and 2 single day tickets. I see that one of September's annual pass benefits is to bring a friend free so I'd only have to pay for 1 single day ticket. I understand that you need to register on-line for the bring a friend deal - can I do that on a phone while I'm standing at the gate? On the surface, this seems like a better deal than buying two fun passes but is this a brilliant plan or am I going to have problems?

Bought tix online in January with the 50% off discount. Had to print out & go to kiosk @ park.

One thing that I've found irritating with SW AP offers is they are very slow to input them into the system so you can book. It took a few days in January for the tix offer to populate. I needed it for first weekend.

Same thing happened with a dine with sharks dinner in February which i finally gave up upon as it didn't load until a few days into the month and we had already moved on that trip to next destination.

I sent Sea World an e-mail and here was their response:

Our 1 and 2 year pass members can purchase a single day guest admission with a 50% discount. You can purchase up to 6 discounted admissions per calendar year at a self-service Kiosk on the date of your visit. You will scan the pass there to purchase the admissions. The cost is currently $49.99 +tax per person 3 and older. You must visit with your guests.

We do offer a friend for free in September. If you already have the pass, you should visit https://seaworld.com/orlando/account/sign-in/ starting September 1st to register for the free ticket. It is valid for 1 visit by September 30, 2017. If you don’t have the pass yet, you must redeem it first and then wait for 30 minutes before you can log in and get offers. The system will need to update so the offers will be available to use. I believe you can get the friend for free at the Kiosk as well.
