Hi everyone,

Looks like we may be doing a non-Disney central FL vacation this January.

Good chance we'll end up at Kennedy Space Center, and I'm hoping to talk the group into a Sea World day as well.

Does anyone know about photography conditions at these places? Are you allowed to bring a DSLR into KSC? Any areas where photography is restricted?

What about Sea World--how is the situation there with the rides? Do you have to store your camera in lockers or cubbies?

Thank you!

I didn't encounter any major photography restrictions at KSC except during the Star Trek show. Unlike WDW where I can get by with my walkaround most of the time, KSC is someplace where I have to take my whole bag. Take the longest lens you have for the bus tour and the widest lens you have for the rocket garden (fisheyes are great here). There are museum like areas with really low light, so a fast prime is a must in those areas since everything is behind glass.

Thanks photochick, great tips.

Do you think a 28mm, 50mm, and 80-200mm would cover it? (full frame) Or should I also bring along the 28-300 super zoom? What about a flash... can I get by without one, with the 50 1.4?

You can get by without flash easily if you have a fast prime. And most of the museum areas a flash is more of a hinderance than a help with all the glass. As far as reach... I had 300mm on a crop body and I still wanted more on the tour.

I have not been to the space center in about 7 years. At that time on the upclose tour where we got to see the modules that were being worked on and packed to go to station did have a no flash area. That was lit enough for the kit lense I had then.

Thank you both for the help!

As long as they don't outright ban DSLR's or all photography (!) I'm happy. :) Sounds like there will be plenty of picture opps.

KSC has a very open photography policy. The only thing they ask you not to photograph are the security guards. It's a very refreshing policy and you can get some great shots there.
