SEA to LGB on Alaska $49 each way

I just called reservations and the chose "modify/change existing reservation." Our flights had gone down by $120 and they sent me a discount for $150! I can't really complain.

I almost didn't call at all because I had calculated a much smaller difference and thought it wasn't worth the effort. Honestly, it took 5 minutes.
You mean you didn't even talk with a rep?

Never mind!

Just spoke with a rep and I'll be getting those codes in a few days!

Woohoo! Yay for Alaska!

I emailed Alaska with a very similar question (see my post above) and they responded by telling me to call a Price Guarantee agent. Granted that policy doesn't help much, as it's not a lower fare I'm looking for on another airline, but trying to get the cheaper one for the exact same flight they have now. From the sounds of it, they'll grant you a discount credit for a future flight.

So, here's my question though. Were there actually seats available for the lower price at the time you got the voucher. In my case, they are offering the lower fair, but my flights appear to all have been sold out, so I can' t get that pricing to show up on my flights. Will they still give me a credit?

If the lower fares were offered, then you MUST give it a shot. If it's the same itinerary, then they'll most likely give it to you. Like Seattlegirl said, it takes only a few minutes. Just call them, choose modify reservation, talk to a rep and tell them your situation and ask if you can get a future discount code. The rep was very kind and I only spoke with her for 2 minutes where she said I would get the codes via email within a few days. They do round up so I get a $75 savings for my next trip (for a 3 person itinerary)!

For those of you that are getting discounts for existing reservations - did you make the reservations directly with AlaskaAir?

What if I made the reservation through Expedia? Am I totally out of luck?

Yes, my reservations were made directly with Alaska Air on their website.

I reserved through Alaska, but when you call, the automated line tells you that if you book with a separate agency, you should call them instead. It wouldn't hurt to give Expedia a call.

Alaska is also running a $79 one way fare from Portland to Long Beach. Our return fare - on a Sunday - was $89. Total fare with taxes: 189.20!
