On the Eastern Cruise they say the first night is pretty rocky due to passing over the gulf stream (I think). We did it and were ok with it (although there were over 20+ seas!!). Does the Western Cruise have the same problem or is it pretty calm.

We will be cruising on the Magic the first week of March. I certainly hope that it's calmer on the Western cruise because I felt terrible the first night on the 4-day cruise on the Wonder! I am definitely seasick, but not doing too bad with my bonine and my sea bands!

But it wouldn't stop me from cruising again. And my TA says that it should definitely be smoother on the Western itinerary... We'll see!

I am the queen of motion sickness....any odd movement will send me over the edge. I got the scop patch and had NO PROBLEMS! I had a bit of dry mouth and that was it. I certainly felt the movement of the ship, but not one ounce of nausea! I read that some were steering away from the patch due to side effects, but the need to drink alot of water was well worth the ability to avoid sea sickness! Plus, we had wine every night which I was a bit nervous about, but no extra side effects happened at all! (Like you, the first night of the 4 day wonder was the worst....) Don't let it make your deicision of what cruise to take, give the patch a shot!

We were fine with the Bonine also. Put on seabands the first night because everyone said that was the worst. No sickness here for any of us. Just be sure to start taking the Bonine BEFORE you board. We took one the night before and the morning of embarkation, then every morning thereafter with our vitatmins. Worked like a charm.

I just booked my 4th cruise and I am the most easily seasick person I know. I can even get seasick floating in an inner tube at the lazy river ride. My adult dtr. and I used the patch our 1st cruise and we slept through 2/3 of the trip. My then 9 y.o. Gr.Dtr. basically cruised alone for 4 days.... it also caused us both to be very light sensitive so when we were awake we had to wear our sun glasses even in the dining rooms - our eyes looked like marachino cherries . red as could be. I also had a sensation of having grit in my eyes. They tell you on the pkg. to be sure not to touch your eyes after applying the patch before washing them with soap and water. I was VERY careful and so was DD. Within an hr. of removing the patch I was fine. On the next two trips I took a bonine an hour before boarding and was fine. We had some rough seas on cruise #2 but with bonine daily I was fine. I do know some lucky people have no problems or very few with the patch, but wanted you to know some side effects can be more then just a dry mouth.

I understand from reading the boards that bonine is available free at the medical station. Is that still correct?

Also, do you have to take bonine BEFORE you feel symptoms, or can you take it once you start to feel queasy? What would be a suggested dosage pattern (first thing in the morning and then every "X" hours thereafter? Or just once a day? Or only when you get on the boat?) We're on the Wonder 3-day starting 11/14, and my son (age 12) is prone to motion sickness.

I purchased mine at Harmon Drugs. It says to take it the night before and then every morning thereafter. If you start feeling sickish, then take it in the am and again in the pm before you go to bed. We didn't need to do that. There was a guest we saw and he was feeling very sick. Told him to get the Bonine from Medical. Saw him the next day and said it did make him feel better, but was told by Drs. that you need to start to take it before you feel sick. It will still work the other way, but who wants to feel sick at all?

Bonine worked well for us too. My DD 11 is very prone to motion sickness, so I gave her 1/2 bonine the morning of our cruise, and 1/2 at night for the first few days. I took the same dose myself. The lower dose worked fine and we had no drowsiness. Neither of us was taking it by the end of the cruise. Saw lots of patches and wristbands too! Diana
