I almost forgot.....

PLEASE.......What can you recommend for Sea Sickness????
I've tried Dramamine, but that just doesn't seem to do the trick.....
Can anyone help me...Thanks in advance!!!

My son gets totally air sick, we got him bonnine for our cruise and he did great. You can also try the patch, you need a perscription for it and it does have side effects. Bonnine will probably do the trick, you can get a shot on the ship if it does not work. Start now with the bonnine and have it in your system.

I have used the Patch with no side effects and it worked beautifully. Last cruise I tried SeaBands; they were great! I put them on just before the life boat drill and left them on over night. I had no problems at all. I wish they made them in different colors though. They just wouldn't make it on formal night!

Have a WONDERful cruise.

My husband and I both take a Bonine pill each day at the same time throughout the cruise and we never have had a problem.

I used the Transaderm Scop patches (prescription) last time I went on a 3 day cruise, and although I didn't get sick, I did feel like I was drugged. All I wanted to do was sleep. The patches are pretty small, and they go behind your ear. Each patch has enough medicine in it to be worn for I think up to 3 days. After that, you just replace it with a new patch.

This time when we sale on May 3rd for our 7 day cruise, I am going to try Bonine because everyone says it works great. I also am bringing some more of the patches...just in case. I would rather feel a little tired than sick and vomitting. I might try cutting the patch in half and placing it on me..I am pretty lightweight so maybe a whole patch was too much for me and caused me to be drowsy.

My husband took some of the non-drowsy dramamine before on a fishing tip and when he got home in the afternoon, he fell asleep for the rest of the day. I am unsure if it was the dramamine...or if it was the days activities.

Have fun on your trip!

I felt quite ill our first night. I had bought Sea Bands at Kroger for $6, but didn't put them on til the second night, and was fine after that. I'm truly not sure if it was the sea bands, or if it was all in my head, or it was because the first night was the roughest. But it's worth a try if you don't like medication.
They are stretchy bands with little buttons that stimulate an accupressure point.

Whatever you choose, it will work best if you take it before you feel ill. The worst thing is getting rid of the seasickness once it has set in.

I'm worried about sea sickness as well (trying to decide whether or not to do a 3 night cruise) and was wondering if you ever see people that are sick the whole trip, regardless of what they do? Is that possible or does 1 of the methods usually work?

Someone told me to begin taking Bonine 3 days before & continue throughout the cruise. I don't mind side effects if that's the only way I can avoid being sea sick. I'd rather that than be nauseated the whole trip. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how likely it is that nothing (regardless of side effects) would work. I'd rather be doped up and not nauseated than sea sick any day.

Sorry for sticking my question in here but I figured it's not the greatest topic to start another thread for. Thanks.

I get motion sick very easily. I was terrified about my first cruise so we went on the 4-day with a stop at Freeport. I thought if I could get off the ship everyday I would feel better. I took a Dramamine (non-drowsy) every day. For the most part it was fine. The night we had dinner in Parrot Cay, I could feel the ship moving. I started to feel sick so I went to my room. (Our waiter was very kind and brought our meals up to us!) I put on my sea bands and opened the door to the verandah and within a half hour I was fine. I was nervous the next night, so I wore the sea bands to dinner and had no problems at all.
Another suggestion: My dentist's wife gets motion sick worse than anyone I know and she bought the expensive Relief Band. (You can get it through Sharper Image) She says it has worked wonders!!

Hope this helps!

I think it all depends on whether you generally get motion sick or not. If you do, then start taking meds the day before (3 days is pushing it, 24-36 hours is plenty of time for the meds to get into your system) you leave and don't stop taking them until you get off.

Also, use the non-drowsy formula. You shouldn't feel too drugged, although, of course, everyone is different. I don't think it is too common to have nothing work at all. I get pretty queasy so I did the patch on both our cruises. On the 1st cruise, it worked like a charm. On the second one, I got some of the side effects (dry eyes) so took it off and used Dram for the rest of the trip and I was fine. There is very little appreciable movement of the ship, but your brain knows that you're moving! DD and DH did not even notice it, I only noticed it where there were no windows, like in the theater or the restaurants, but again, first with the patch, then with the Dram, I was not sick.

I'm getting ready to go on my first cruise ever on Carnival in 2 weeks. My doctor prescribed the transderm scop patch and told me to try it out beforehand to see if I was affected by the side effects. Last night I put the patch on and it felt ok, however this morning when I woke up with a really bad case of nausea and I felt doped up! I removed the patch and after a few hours I felt much better! So I went and bought Non drowsy dramamine, SeaBands, and ginger pills. That should do the trick. I've heard the Ginger works really well as it's just like drinking a ginger ale when you're nauseous.
So my take on things is this: All of the sea sickness remedys work differently on different people; it's very important to try out any remedy you're going to take on your cruise beforehand to make sure that the side effects aren't going to ruin your hard earned vacation! :)

SeaBands - can you use them with a medication like Bonine or Dramamine, and can kids use them?

Great idea about trying the patch out before leaving. I am picking up a prescription and will try it out next weekend. Thanks for the tip !

Yes, seabads can be used with anything and on anyone. They are totally harmless. Elastic bands with a white plastic button that when placed properly are supposed to have like an acupuncture effect. Some say useles, and others say it helps. I used them last time and say they can't hurt! :D

Thanks everyone. If we decide to go, I'll do a little "testing" first.

I just wanna get on the ship now! Gosh, and to think I have over a whole year left! How am I gonna make it?:bounce:
:p :p :bounce: :p :p :bounce: :p :p

We had pretty rough seas (16-20 ft) on Sunday night. I took 2 Bonine and was pretty much fine...until dinner. We were in Parrot Cay and I was looking around at the sights. Big mistake, I had to leave early. My sister said that she stayed focused on the table and was pretty much fine. I had no other problems on board for our 4-day.
