Sea Raycers

As long as no storms are in the area, you can cross the bridge. They are easy to use the kids drove when they were old enough. Bring your camera but they will not let you stop moving. They will reprimand you if you stop I am sure it is a safety thing. The one time one of our boats stalled it was with an extended family member. His clip from his vest to boat came undone. That will shut off the boat. A safety measure for if you fall out which is very unlikely. I never thought to ask for a new boat due to slow. We always rent from WL.

I don't know if it's enforced, but part of the agreement you sign includes not taking any photos while in the boat. I suspect in large part it's because they don't want guests asking them to retrieve the camera that they dropped in the water.

They are fun, we rented one time at the Contemporary! I think a 1/2 hour is enough and in the Summer months it does get hot even being out on the water. My husband and daughter did the Parasailing also at the Contemporary which they both loved :D Go for it :thumbsup2

I remember seeing that in the agreement too. However, the last 2 times we rented them the CM said "don't forget your cameras" right before we got in the boats. So no, I don't think it's enforced. :rotfl2:

Maybe the driver should not take photos, but the passenger should be able to. We bring ours and it is obvious to the CM that we are bringing it and never had an issue. Don't forget to go by the old River Country area.

If you are going in the summer, try to rent in the morning because they usually stop renting when the afternoon storms come through.

I see that officially it's a two person boat, but any chance of a single father and two small children (7 and 5) being allowed to go together? Without having any other adults with me, I can't take them out one at a time. (I posted this in another forum, should have realized it was better suited for the Resort forum!). If it matters, were under 250 lbs for all three of us.

Unfortunately, no. Unless they have changed their stance in the last couple years.

Two passengers maximum even if you don't hit the weight limit. Just rented them a few weeks back. Also the woman said Disney now allows the passenger to take photos/videos but the driver is not allowed.

The boats are great fun. Like others have said, the Sea Raycers aren't fast, but allow drivers a very individual boating experience. We have also rented a pontoon boat from WL multiple times, and enjoyed that for a relaxing change of pace where we could have the whole family on one boat. It is really neat to be able to cross the water bridge to check out the Seven Seas Lagoon and go right in front of MK. For this reason we love renting from MK area resorts, since you have a lot of lake area you can explore. Even with the pontoon we usually can do everything we want in an hour, but it is a highlight of the trip when we do it.

There will be 3 of us going, myself, my mom and my 3 year old son. Are the pontoons easy to drive? I have driven something similar to the Sea Raycers before and it was easy but debating if we should get a pontoon so we can all go together.

We've talked about doing this for years. I think we will rent a boat for two this September. What do you think is better, the Sea Raycers or the Boston Whaler? Can a person sit next to the person driving the boat with the Whaler?

Thanks.

The pontoons are super easy to drive. They are big and slow, but if you can drive a car (or a Sea Raycer) you can drive one. They just aren't as quick and nimble as the smaller boats. It is fun to all hang out together on one boat, but the action as far as driving the boat itself probably isn't as exciting with the bigger slower boat. Cast members help out with docking, so it is a really easy boating experience.

We did the pontoon with two of us, but the question of Whaler vs Sea Raycer comes down to how much extra room do you want. In the Sea Raycer the two of you will fill up the boat, and you won't be able to move around much, but you'll be nice and close. Someone who isn't as comfortable on the water might enjoy the extra space of the bigger boat. In the larger boats you can walk around and switch drivers too. The Whalers have a small bench for the drivers seat, which I believe can seat two, as opposed to the pontoons which have a captains chair. The Sea Raycers are cheaper though, so you could stay out longer. At the resort you can walk out on the dock and look at the boats and see which one appeals to you both at the time and then rent that one, so you don't really have to decide ahead of time.

Thanks that is very helpful.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you have two adults in a single Sea Raycer, you're going to lose a lot of speed. they seem to be pretty sensitive to weight.
