I was reading about sea lice in warm waters at this time of year(mostly Caribbean water, but some in Florida). Has anyone had this problem at Vero? We will be there for Labor Day.

I don't know what my ds7 got into at HH in July but on the way home we stopped to spend the night in a hotel. DS7 was sleeping with DH and I kept hearing my husband say things like stop moving around, settle down, etc. Well, all of the sudden my son is standing over me, crying and saying his back is itching. So I scratched it. Then he started saying over and over it was itchy. So I continued to scratch. Then tried lotion and then cortizone cream. Still didn't take the itch away. The strangest part was there was nothing on his back, no redness, no hives, no bites, nothing!! Finally he layed in the tub and when he sat up, I'd rub his back with a washcloth. We did this for a good 2 hours and finally he was able to settle down enough to go back to sleep. Could have been the nighttime cough medication I gave him at the beginning of the ordeal since it had an antihistimine in it and I thought if nothing else it would knock him out. The next morning he couldn't sit with his back against the seat in the van because the itching would start again. Very strange!

I read about these on cruise board. these only bite when trapped under clothing. Sorry to hear about your son... Sue

Also known as sea-bather's eruption. They are the larvae of jellyfish which lodge beneath your swimsuit and sting you with nematocysts. A nasty rash. Always wash your suit out in fresh water. I've read that only one in five swimmers in the same water is afflicted. I have experienced them in Mexico and St. Thomas this time of year but not in the Gulf off FL or the Atlantic but I don't often go to the Atlantic except the Keys.

Wife got them good at Cocoa Beach last month, while the three others in our party (males, briefer suits!) had no problem:(

I read about sea lice on the cruise board too. It must be a rather lengthy thread because I have been getting updates on the thread since April. Anway......a poster recommended that we buy a product called SAFE SEA and I ordered it online. I got the jellyfish and sea lice safe sun block ( SPF 30). It seemed to work for us on our cruise. On the back of the bottle it gives a web site
http://www.nidaria.com You might want to check this web site out plus talk to the posters on the cruise board so you can read the complete thread on the topic.
