For some reason, everytime we go to the beach or anywhere around salt water, sea air, etc. my ankles swell up a great deal. I don't even have to get in the water. Any suggestions for this other than decreasing salt intake or taking a Lasix? I have them for occasional edema in my ankles, but really don't want to have to find a bathroom frequently on vacation. Hey, other nurses or anybody, any suggestions??

The only thing I can suggest other than restricting salt and taking Lasix is to also restrict your carbs and add more protien to your diet that week. In a person more apt to retain fluid, carbs help in the retention where protien tends to draw more fluid out. Also, take the lasix but time them for the time best for you. If you take one at night when you are planning to be in your room it is less inconvenient.

I'm hoping someone comes up with something better. I gained 12 pounds (most fluid) on last years cruise even though I was trying to be careful. I hoping it doesn't happen again this year.

I find that if I drink a lot of water I retain less. Always seems weird but it works for me. Although I get the bathroom issue just like with the lasix. Good luck!
