Just back from trip last week. This was a last minute trip for 2 people. I Checked MDE often but not daily to try to get FP+ for SDMT and a 1:30-2:30 time popped up about 2 days before our trip. It is a slow time of year so that was probably lucky but wanted to let you all know that times do open up. On the day we arrived at EMH rope drop at 7:25 am and lined up on the right side one row back from the rope. At opening we walk directly to the SDMT behind the cast members. While this is certainly not a mob it is intense and I would highly recommend if you are going to do this with children that you make sure they have all gone to the bathroom and tied their shoes with double knots. Hold hands to stay together. If you have a stroller be careful! If you stay in the front of the pack you will be on the ride within 10 minutes of getting in the ride cue. We then rode again at our FP+ time. Finally, at 7:50 for an 8:00 PM park close the posted wait time was 30 minutes but we were on the ride as Wishes fireworks began overhead! It was a beautiful way to ride!
Overall, the ride is perfect for Fantasy Land and the placement in the heart of Fantasy Land makes for fun views as you come in and out of the mine. The animatronics are excellent but unfortunately short. The rides leaves you happy but wishing for a bit more....maybe that is the plan! Will definitely want to ride this ride each trip.
