Can one of you walk me through the actual process of using the SDFP bands?

I have 4 bands for my family, linked in MDE that i will make 60 day advance FP with.

I have my sister's 3 bands, I have my husband's band from a previous trip (part of the hive) but he is not going with us and does not have a ticket attached. SO no pre-planned FP for that band. A total of 4 SDPF bands.
Prior to the trip, I set up my MDE and my sisters MDE so that I can see her plans.

I enter the park, kids go to Space Mountain which I don't ride, and I go to a kiosk with the bands.

Even though my sister's bands are all from one account, I still must scan each of the 3 bands one at a time and select whatever 3 rides show up (September, I should have choices). I don't remember how to do things at the kiosk, but I am not a techno-phobe -- do I need her account and password information readily available, or is it just a swipe?

Then I swipe my husband's band and grab 3 FP again.

Once I have swiped all 4 bands and have 3 SDFP on each band, I can now go into my MDE account (just my account, I won't need my sister's since I linked them prior to the trip?) and change the times and attractions? Is this correct?

When I have used those 3 SDFP, I can schedule a 4th SDFP from my smart phone? Or do I need to find a kiosk to make the 4th, but can modify that from the phone?

I very much appreciate your help.

Hi, I have searched the early pages of this discussion for an explaination of this technique and I still don't understand about phantoms and other cards or bands. Is it explained in detail somewhere? Is this abkut a way to get extra FPs? Also wondering what RFID means.

At the kiosk, it's just a swipe of the bands - no account info needed.

Are your sister's bands all connected to her, or to her and two other individuals on her account? If they are all part of a "hive mind" connected to your sister, then they won't be useful to more than one person. If they are for three individuals, though, and you can make plans for all three people, then you will be able to modify the SDFPs via MDE on your phone or other device after you visit a kiosk to select the SDFPs. If you cannot make plans for her in MDE, you will have to return to the kiosk to modify those SDFPs. I recently took my brother's band and two SILs' bands. I am connected with my brother but not the SILs, and I could not change those SDFPs from my phone - I would have had to return to a kiosk, so I just selected carefully and took a picture of my selections before leaving the kiosk.

Once you've used the three SDFPs, you have to return to a kiosk to make the fourth (and add'l) selections.

ETA: If you want all four people to have the same FP selections, you can swipe your husband's band along with the first three - you don't have to do them separately unless you are hoping to find greater availability or if you want to book separate attractions.

Thanks so much for your response! Yes, sister & her family, so each band can be used.

Yes, I would want the same FP for the most part. Good to know I can try all 4, instead of 3 then 1.

Those are the settings I see in my account. I will make sure to have her change hers so I can see all her plans. Thank you!!!

Do CM's say anything when you use a card for a FP+ when you're already wearing a MB? Should we take our bands off? Or do they not care? I've not seen many people using cards so I wasn't sure if it was something that made it super obvious what we were doing.

As Hiro said, they don't care as long as it turns green at the rides. Don't care if the name doesn't seem logical or you have 4 MB's on or you use a card vs. MB. As far as when you're at the kiosk, I've found that some CM's will try to be more helpful than others and try to understand what you're doing (to help, not because they want to stop you). If you're comfortable with what you're doing then tell them so and they'll go away. If you're not sure what you're doing the first time, I'd say something like "We made our FPP's in advance but now my sister and her family joined us today and don't have FP's yet" if you want them to walk you through adding the cards and making the FP's the first time. Just a reminder if you haven't used the system since the changes, you now make 1 FP at a time so you'll need to go through and make 3 SDFP's total (one at a time) since you can't add them on your phone like you could with normal tickets. Since you have to go through the whole process each time anyway, I would look at least for rides/times close to what you want rather than just grabbing the first 3 offered (like I used to do just to get out of there) and changing on the phone.

@123SA - tagging you in this response as well since you'd mentioned just grabbing 3 FP's so you're aware it's one at a time now. You'll see this when you book at 60 days out and the kiosks will function the same way.

Hi everyone thanks for all this great help. If I buy a brand new band at a store in the parks can I open the package and immediately tap it to a kiosk for sdfp or do I first have to attach it to someone (phantom or otherwise) in my mde? Thanks!

You have to attach it to an MDE account - either a Phantom in yours or a separate account made for that purpose. You will enter the numbers on the back of the band to assign it.

Thanks!! I can do that over my phone in the park right after I buy it, right?

I made the 60 day FP for the first time last August, so I have very little experience. I read through Kenny the Pirate's explanation of the changes today and I'm not quite understanding. IS it that last year I selected 3 FP for the whole party and then saved them all at once, and this year I make one FP for whoever in the party wants it, save it, then pick the next FP save it, pick the next one save it? Good Lord...I have 14 days to book. It will take forever.

And, does this mean that I swipe all 4 SDFD select a FP save it, swipe the bands again to select FP 2, and then for FP 3 since we are not all getting the same thing, I swipe 3 of them select FP save it, swipe band 4 select FP save it?

Oh wait...4 bands...am I swiping 4x3 times and saving 4x3 times?

First, HUGE thanks for all your help!! Seriously.

Second, this is super helpful. We last went last June, so even though I consider myself pretty FP+ savvy, I haven't touched it since the new update (nor have I ever made multiple FP+ at once using a kiosk -just the 4th and so on). I think I'll have to find some reading on the new system. I'd prefer not to need CM help (my husband doesn't like to feel like he's doing something wrong -guilty conscious over sully things lol) but I might need their help the first time to make sure I link all the SDFP right? Something about scanning them at the same time and making sure they link together? I need to look into it a little more. Can I still make changes to SDFP using my phone? Or is it best to have a plan of attack for where and times we'd like them?

LOL, sorry for all the questions.

Not quite as bad as all that. :) It will save your party and day when you do it in advance online so once you book the first FP if you click "Same Day" it will show you the choices for the same park and people (but you can change if you want say only one person to ride). Makes it easy to do the three FPP's for the same group. At the kiosk it will be even easier. Once you choose your first SDFP it will say something like "You can choose two more experiences, do you want to continue?" Again, it will show all 4 people (no need to rescan bands) and you choose again. You could deselect the person who wants something different although I do think you'd have to rescan their band at the kiosk then to choose for them. Personally though I think it would be easier to just choose 3 FPP's for all 4 people (whichever one most of them want) then change the 4th person's to something else on your phone. This way you only have to scan the actual bands once.

You really shouldn't need CM help unless there's a problem when you do it (and in that case I'd just say what I suggested above - maybe send your husband with the kids somewhere else while you do this). As you scan each card, the first name will pop up. If you've scanned 4 all 4 names will show together with a check mark by each (to deselect someone if you don't want to select for them). Once you have all 4 names at the kiosk there will be something obvious to click to choose FPP's (I can't remember exactly what it says). Probably the best plan of attack is to at least choose the rides you'd like then play with the times on your phone. I seem to have better luck with choices this way or maybe I just don't know how to get it to let me see more times at the kiosk. Unlike before April 10 when the phone app and the computer app and the kiosk format all were different, now they're virtually all the same. So what you see now if you try to change times on your phone or computer (for the FPP's you already have) will be very similar to what the kiosk will show (except I can't figure out how to "swipe" for more times at a kiosk). Maybe play with it a bit in advance. Anyway, I'd just scan all the cards once, pick the rides you want (because it's easier to change just a time than to go through and select a whole new ride and times), pick the closest time that might work for you quickly and then work on fine tuning later on your phone.

One heads up, if you share a MDE with both your regular and your SDFP's, when you go back to book a 4th SDFP at the kiosk the CM's will try to be overly helpful if you haven't used all of them for everyone since all 8 names will pop up. They think you're trying to book for all 8 people and want to make sure you realize that only 4 of them can get another FPP (assuming you haven't used the 3rd for the original people or have already added your 4th from your phone for them). So just nod if they point out quickly something like "Wait - only A, B, C, & D will get that FPP!" and say "I understand". That just seems to be the main point I find they want to "help" me.

If we have 7D PH for a future trip but we're going for more than 7 days on this upcoming trip, I know we can pre book 7 days worth of fast passes using the future tickets. But can we also get 3 SDFPs using those tickets for the additional days we are at the parks during our upcoming trip beyond the 7 that have prebooked FPs? Does that make sense?

Just to double check.. If I get my tickets such that I get a hard RFID enabled ticket/card.. can I just use that physical card as my media for the SDFPs? (assign the cards to the phantom profiles and reassign the ticket to the 'primary' profiles that the reservation is under and are linked to the magic bands).

Just clarifying that you realize you won't be able to make a second set of advance FP's using the same names on the account. So your future 7 day tickets will need to be assigned to a Phantom name on the same account (preferably different enough that they don't get combined accidentally by a helpful CM) or in a second MDE account. Assuming that's the case, then you should be able to book 7 days in advance with the second set of tickets. (Obviously be sure not to use those by mistake when entering the park). You shouldn't need to use them for SDFP's - after midnight on each day you use one you should be able to make another one. So at midnight after Day 1 (or in the morning if you prefer), you can make day 8. After day 2, make day 9, etc. So you should still have a good selection since you'll be booking roughly a week in advance.

Yes, my parents, nephews and niece will actually be there at the same time but aren't going to the parks, so I have our extra tickets assigned to them in our account and already have fast passes for everyone. I hadn't thought of that, but I guess it makes sense that we could get advance fast passes after we use each day. Thank you so much for pointing that out!!! That's so much easier and definitely improves our chances of better FP selection! Thanks again!!!
