scuba diving in Cozumel

Has anyone done the scuba diving in Cozumel? My DH wants to do this, but I am not certified (and I don't want to be). Do you think they will let me go along for the ride?

I have no idea about DCL scuba excursions, but the company we snorkeled with, Eagle Ray Divers, had some scuba people on the same boat with us. They are VERY accomodating and would certainly let you go along "just for the ride" or you could arrange to snorkel while he dives.

Our excursion had our group snorkeling (myself, DH and DS5) and 2 pairs of divers. Each pair of divers went down with their own guide a little farther our from shore from where we snorkeled. I assume the reef gets deeper further out.

One of the pairs of scuba divers on our excursion were actually crew from the Magic (officer/staff types - that actually can get time off in port).

Thanks for the info. Do you know if Eagle Ray is the company DCL goes with when they book? I think I saw it listed next to the excursion in the Passporter, but I didn't know if that was who DCL books through or if that is who you use when you book on your own.

I am fairly sure that Eagle Ray is NOT who DCL uses for their excursions. Usually cruise line excursions need to accomodate large groups, so they use large companies with large boats. That is one of the main reasons I avoid cruise line excursions - I prefer a smaller group and more personalized trips.

Our excursion last year had about 12 people on the boat. Our guide, the guides for the 2 scuba pairs, the driver, one other "crew" who seemed to mostly there as a lookout while we were all in the water and 7 "guests". On a cruise line excursion it wouldn't be that unusual to have 3 to 5 TIMES that many.
