Why didn't Scrooge ever fire Launchpad?

You would think that Launchpad was too big of a liability for a business man like Scrooge McDuck

Maybe Launchpad was the cheapest pilot he could hire.
All through the Uncle Scrooge/Donald Duck comics that were authored and drawn by Carl Barks, you would see hints that Scrooge kept his nephew Donald as a hired
flunky because he worked cheap.

I did not know these comics existed.

I wonder how easy they are to find?

It's an entire 'nother Disney Universe. Several of the Duck characters were created by Carl Barks: Uncle Scrooge, the Beagle Boys, Gyro Gearloose, Grandma Duck, Magica De Spell.

My life-long love of all things Disney were through the comics. They are widely available in reprints and for enough money, the originals.

Many of the original DuckTales (1987-90) cartoons were based upon Barks' comic stories.

Throughout the show, 10 episodes credits him as the original story writer, i.e. that he wrote the comic book story which was adapted into a teleplay by the show's writers.

The International Network of Disney Universe Comic Knowers and Sources[1] (I.N.D.U.C.K.S.) or Inducks is a freely available database aiming to index all Disney Universe comics ever printed in the world, created and maintained by both amateurs and professionals.[2] It is an international project[3] which provides indexes of around 130,000 Disney comic publications worldwide.[4] It is distributed with its own licence.

I am definitely going to have to try and find some of the reprints.

We didn't get cable until I was in 8th grade (96-97) but I cherished the time I would spend at my aunt's house because I got to watch DuckTales and Chip and Dale rescue rangers but that was only a couple of times a week.

I could check out the rescue rangers books from the school library but I never knew there were DuckTales comics and I never stumbled across any of the books. That's probably a good thing though because I would have paid even less attention in school if I had been able to find them 🤣😂

I have a similar story. Many oldster Disney fans got their first exposure from the Sunday night TV show in the 50s or the Micky Mouse Club TV show. We couldn't receive the ABC affiliate, nor could any of the neighbors.

But the comics kept me afloat, along with visits to our relations in Baton Rouge, whose TV could pick up the Disney Sunday night show. And a Disney movie on the big screen when our family could afford it. Think The Vanishing Prairie, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, etc.

You'll notice my avatar is the cover of a 1958 Dell Giant. Probably my favorite of all my collection.

@wabbott

I think we can safely say that I'm a couple of years younger than you but I remember the joy of going to the movie rental place and getting a Disney movie on VHS.

Everyone in the family gathered around the TV waiting for the moment that the magical music would play and the castle would appear.

We rarely ever got to go to the movie theater but when we did, it was a huge treat. I remember going to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit when I was 5 or 6. The melting scene traumatized me 😂🤣

I've tried keeping those memories going with my own family but it just seems like everyone has their own thing going on.

You've triggered another Disney family anecdote: We visited WDW in 1990, the year after Disney/MGM Studio opened. There used to be a studio backlot that had many of the Roger Rabbit props on exhibit - The Dipmobile and the Weasel's panel truck, etc.

DD was four then, and she loved the Roger Rabbit movie. But when we turned the corner and saw that black panel truck, she would go NOWHERE near it!

Great memories!!

🤣😂🤣😂 I cannot say that I blame her 😂🤣😂🤣

Despite that scene, there are a lot of great memories. I'm pretty sure I can credit that movie for my love of redheads 🤣😂
