I was flipping channels last night, because with over 800 channel's I still find that there is nothing on..LOL

Anyway, I landed on ESPN and the spelling bee was on. They were in round 12 with 5 kids left. I was mesmerized! I could not believe the words these kids were spelling. It was very suspenseful, they would put the word up as the kid started spelling it, and I was going letter to letter, holding my breath. Strange reaction to a TV show.

Those kids were AMAZING. Did that 14yo winner really win $40,000 in prize money? I thought it was cute how the adults had to help her hold the trophy, that's how big it is.

DH and I started watching right around the same time (flipping channels ) and I was soooo impressed with those kids!

Though I was a bit disappointed with how gleeful the winner was when someone else got a word wrong and dropped out. :sad2:

Check out the movie Akeelah and the Bee. It will really make you enjoy spelling bees!

I wanted Laura to win. She was just so adorable.

Spellbound is a documentary that follows a bunch of kids in the National Spelling Bee. It's really good, but then I also liked Akeelah.

There was an ad on Yahoo yesterday for the Spelling Bee. If you go to the site, there's a qualifying test you can take. It's 25 words with 3 additional words. I got through the first 5 without a problem... then they hit you with the hard ones.

I didn't do well enough to qualify...

You know Prakish made it rain at the after party. That kid knows how it gets down.

I love Spellin' Bees, had no idea they would broadcast 'em on ESPN, I'll have to unblock that channel.

Thanks, I'll put it on my list. :thumbsup2

I scored 16 points. Not well enough to qualify. I got 14/25. Some of them I got wrong because I misheard the pronunciation.

You barely missed then. Mine said I would have made it to the semi's. I got 15 out of 25, but I missed my round 2 and round 3 words. What really sucks is I knew the words from the definitions before I even got them sounded out and I still couldn't spell them:rotfl:

I really am a sucky speller. Mostly it's one letter or I put a homily for a group of letters.

I got 23 pts for all three rounds...still not good enough for the semi finals. :rotfl:

Ok. Just went and found a larger screen. I totally didn' qualify. :rotfl: stupid little screen. But hey who knew I could spell kafkaesque.

Okay, sorry OP but I just have to do this as it is a thread on the spelling bee. You spelled the name of the spelling bee incorrectly. :goodvibes

It is: Scripps and not Schripp's. Sorry but I couldn't resist. :lmao:

:flower3: :flower3: :flower3:

I got 16 points! I missed these words:

remembrance (I've never been able to spell this one correctly on the first try!)
jiggety
infobahn
calenture
pinealectomy
monodomous
vitelline (missed the double L)
acetarious (switched the second A for an E)
hukilau (added an O before the U)
mozzarella (I never spell this one right either! I put an E for the A always!)
repertoire (made the second E an A)

That's why I am not in DC holding up a trophy half my size. LMAO
