My dd's synchronized skating team got approval from the club board to start a Scrip program as a fundraising idea. We're pretty excited because we think we'll be able to make some "easy" money this way. Does anyone have a rough idea of how much we might be able to make in our first year? There's 40 families between the 3 teams, but some families from the club who don't have synchro skaters might also join.
Any tips or words or wisdom for us?
Thanks!!!

You can really make unlimited money doing this but with only 40 families, I wouldn't count on much. Our kids' old school does this and makes about $30,000/year with roughly 175 families. Our school had it set up so 60% went toward your tuition and 40% went into the general fund for the school. Our best sellers were for the local grocery stores and gas stations.

Well, when you're paying for figure skating, every bit helps!

Hi Annie!

Our kids' entire school does this, although I have to admit, I have not participated at all in this program. It was rolled out with much fanfare a few years ago, and quite frankly, I found it to be too complicated and confusing. I am much too busy to plan out how much I am going to spend at which stores/vendors at what times to "order" my Scrips ahead of time. (A bit of a cop-out, I know, but it was just another hassle that my brain could not process!).

But here is the webpage for the Regina program. Hope it works for you!

P.S. Walked by Kinnick Stadium today and they were testing out the new JumboTron scoreboard with various "Go HAWKS!!!" graphics . . .

No way!! One of my very best college friends has the contract for the running the Jumbotron! Jim must have been working today. :thumbsup2 We;ll be there for Homecoming again. i can't wait!
Thanks for the Scrip info too!

Oh, and another reason we never did this is that you can only pay for Scrip with check or money order. We usually use our Mileage Plus VISA card wherever and whenever we can, to build up our Frequent Flyer mileage, so that was another disadvantage for us.

I wish I could pay for skating with my Disney Rewards card. I'd really rack up the points! :thumbsup2

My dd's gymnastics team uses scrip and it is a great program. We use Great Lakes scrip I am actually in charge of it. All the stores are different but we can make between 1 to 18 percent depending on what we order. Some of the gas cards are 4 % and some of the restaurants are 11%. Some of our families just order cards for themselves and some are taking orders from family and friends.

YAY synchro! What team is she on?

Dating myself now...I skated in the 2nd Precision (now synchro) Nationals in 1986 (skated on a long-gone team from Cleveland area). I retired when I went to college after 6 4th place finishes at Nationals (2 novice, 4 junior). I un-retired at the ripe old age of 24 in 1997-1998 to skate senior with Team del Sol the year they finished 6th at nationals - missed the international trip the following year because we moved to FL. I've made it to nationals to watch a few times since then (Tampa, Detroit & Lake Placid).

It was almost 10 years ago now, but we had scrip in San Diego - 1-2 girls paid for all of their travel with it, others earned nothing. I guess it depends on motivation.

I LOVE synchro - I hope she is having a great time!

She LOVES synchro! She's on the Rhythm and Blades Juvenile team. She's 12. Our high team has done well in the Open Juvenile class the last 3 years at Midwesterns- 2 silvers and a gold medal!!! :cheer2:

That's great! Some of my best memories of my mom are from our skating travels. It is amazing how things can be really funny at 4 am, or the unique situations that arise when traveling with 20 girls and their families!

Good luck this season!
