screen protectors?

Does anyone use screen protectors for their LCD screens? It's amazing how much can be charged for these things - what a killing these guys make on a little piece of plastic!

I believe I saw some for a GameBoy, priced right at a few in a pack for about $2; haven't seen 'em since, of course.

What do you use and where do you get them?

you might be talking about the little plastic ones kind of like saran wrap...
the one i have is by delkin called efilm and is hard black plastic and flips up to protect the screen and make it easier to see in the sun...i think it helps a little in the sun, but is also a little annoying as you can't shoot very easily with it open so have to flip it up to see the histogram etc. i does keep the screen from getting "nose oil" ( ewww) on it though and from scratches. i think it was around $20

Palm makes them, you cut them to the size you want and they adhear without any type of glue to the screen. I think they are about $7 for a pack of 10. I have had one on my treo for almost a year now that is still perfect, and I use it quite a bit.

The flexible ones that adhere to the screen don't protect from much other than nose oil!

You need something rigid and even that works best if there is a rim around the screen so that the rigid plate when mounted (using double stick tape) does not touch the screen.

Go to Daproducts dot com to see a variety of sizes of rigid screen protectors. Because they are thick, you cannot cut them to size yourself.

I don't bother with screen protectors. Since the screen has nothing to do with image quality I don't worry about a little scratch, and for the big scratches it is supposed to be a fairly easy procedure to replace the screen.

Nose grease? The mark of a serious photographer!

Honestly, with my (lack of) close up vision the screen is only good for histograms and to show me if someone walked in front of the photo. Other than that I can't get much from the screen image so a little scratch isn't going to make much difference anyway.

I and for the big scratches it is supposed to be a fairly easy procedure to replace the screen.

One accidental bump and the screen without a rigid protector gets cracked and now we are talking about sending the camera away for repair and it costs around $200., or more.

It's not covered by warranty.

It was fairly easy, however I take no responsibility, use caution and if you are not comfortable doing something like this, than please send it to Canon.
In all, I don't think you need a screen protector or anything since the Canon plastic window is quite scratch resistant and sturdy. You don't have to worry about it. But should something happen to it, you can just pop in a new one with relative ease.

Bob....I'm the one who parks 6 miles from WalMart to avoid all possibility of a ding in my car door! This ain't about picture quality, it's about keeping my camera pretty. hmmmm....i wonder if i should even use it to take outdoor shots, i really hate the thought of potential fading of the outer casing

I'm in the "no protector" camp. A little care with the camera and you'll be fine. The clear plastic ones are very distracting to me (and protect from virtually nothing), and I'm afraid that the flip-up ones will be more trouble than they're worth.

It'd take a fairly serious hit to crack the LCD, anyway. They're not that fragile.

I put one on when I first got my Rebel XT (a thin palm pilot cover cut to fit). But the corners would turn up and eventuall peel off. I've been without one for close to a year now with no scratches.

I've never been too worried about breaking the screen. Besides, if my XT breaks I finally have a good excuse to upgrade to a 30D!!!

I have this too on mine. However I am use to looking at the photo as it pops on my screen for a brief second to see how it looks, and you can't look Drives me nuts sometimes, but I am getting better.

then you could put the whole thing in a ziplock baggie and protect the screen and the lens.. and if someone asks why all the photos are blurry tell them it's a new technique and they must be very uncreative if they can't see the beauty of your artsy blurry photos
