While we are very excited to visit September 14-18 and welcome the beginning of the Halloween season (which means great changes to HM and SP), I'm sad to see that Screamin' and Pirates both show to be down for refurb.....

Oh well..I guess they have to close down some time to keep everything in tip-top condition. I haven't told my hubby yet about either as he LUVS both!

I am really disappointed about missing Screamin' as this ride is not in FL so it was one of the main things I was looking forward to. I wish I had found this website before I booked my trip as it is clear that the week I chose is often one of the worst for rehabs. Still at least I should get shorter queues and it gives me a good excuse to make another trip to DL!

Yes, the two weeks right after Labor Day are notorious for refurbs, and in general there is usually something major being refurbed in Sept-Oct because it is off-season.

But you are right the crowds will be less and I hope you get in lots of rides otherwise!

We're going Sep 20-27 and I'm also a little disappointed to see Pirates and Screamin' down. My hubby was finally going to ride Screamin' too. I've been trying forever to get him to ride it.... Oh well. At least there is still a lot to do and enjoy!

I'm brand new to this board and all the synonyms... so sorry if I sound like an idiot. Um we are going Sept 9-17th to California. How do you find out what days a ride are closed? I dont even know what Screamin' is but Pirates of the Carrabean is my FAV ride and I was so excited to show my kids it. Is it closed any of those days? Where do you see what rides' closed on the calander?

Sorry to tell you this, but POTC (Pirates of the Caribbean) is closed all of those days.

Check the days you are going on the Disney calendar and it will show you what is being refurbished.

The Disneyland.com calendar will show you what rides are close for a particular day. We also get information from this weekly post: http://www.mouseplanet.com/search.php?type=c&cid=dl

Unfortunately there is quite a lot going on that week, and Pirates will be down, and Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain will be down until the 15th. Here is a list of the upcoming DL and DCA closures:

Disneyland

* Matterhorn Bobsleds – closed through September 1 for refurbishment.
* Haunted Mansion – closed August 29 to September 15 for installation of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.
* Indiana Jones Adventure – closed September 6 & 7 for refurbishment.
* Pirates of the Caribbean – closed September 7 to November 23 for refurbishment.
* Blue Bayou – closed September 7 to November 23 for refurbishment.
* Space Mountain – closed September 9–15 for installation of the Ghost Galaxy overlay.
* Mark Twain – closed September 26–28 for deck oiling.

Seasonal refurbishments:

* California Screamin' – closed September 6 to October 14 for refurbishment.

Construction-related closures:

* Engine-Ears Toys – closed through May 30, 2012 for renovation.
* Greetings from California – closed August 29, 2011 to May 30, 2012 for renovation.

I'm seriously gonna cry. :( MAN! I've been talking about the Haunted House and Pirates for several years now with my children. I can at least go to the Haunted House if I choose one of the days to go as the 16th. We are hoping to get a 2 day hopper pass but now maybe a three day. The problem is even the 2 day is a stretch money wise for 5 people in our family. I'm so bummed. :( I haven't been to Disneyland since 2001 and that was in January ... so much was closed then. We already have our plane tickets. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it. If you know where I can get cheaper tickets than $156 for kids and $168 for adults for the 2 day, or great ones for 3 day.. let me know. Boo.

I'm sorry you'll be missing PotC! :( If your kids love pirates, I would take them over to Tom Sawyer Island, which has been transformed into Pirates Lair.

If you're going in September, Disney sells 3-day hoppers for $199/$183. That's about $30 more per person for a full extra day in the parks....I know that may be a stretch, but your per-day price is substantially lower...

You will still have fun.

Cool on TS Island! I haven't looked much on Disney's website, I'm too excited too lol.

Nice about the tickets for 3 day! I don't know if I can twist my hubby's arm though on spending more money. I can certainly try. I still need to see what this World Of Color thing is everyone keeps talking about. No clue.

Oh and is it worth it to wait till Friday and go see the Haunted House? I mean, I've never seen it when it's decked up for Halloween so I don't know.

The Haunted Mansion made over as The Nightmare Before Christmas is pretty neat. It's different than the regular Haunted Mansion, but most people like the overlay. (The ones that don't seem to be those that don't like the temporary changes to the Haunted Mansion, which in fairness take up a lot of time--at this point there are only 7 or 8 months of the year when you can see the non-holiday version.)

Do you like Halloween and/or fall and/or The Nightmare Before Christmas and/or bold colors at all? If so, I'd most definitely make an effort to visit during Hallowentime (which I believe starts that Friday, like you noted). My mom just loves the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay to the Haunted Mansion, and all the pumpkins and whatnot they have for Halloween, even though she's never even SEEN The Nightmare Before Christmas! She loves fall and the bright colors/slightly less ghostly nature in the Haunted Mansion.

Whenever you go will be fun. But if you can swing 3-day passes, though, I'd definitely make one of them Friday.

Have a great trip! :flower3:

We are taking my kids (3 & 4) down for the first time, while i am bummed about Screamin`, POTC would have been great for my kids.

We are going that first week of September, M-F the 5-9. We are going as a whole huge family, my husband and kiddos, my mom and dad and my two sisters and my one sister's boyfriend. We had to go early September because we wanted it to be not in the summer and we needed to go before those three go back to college. Plus everything is much cheaper before my son turns 2 on the 24th. But I'm super bummed about all the closures. I get that it's off season but it'd be nice if they didn't lump all of the big ones together.

Lucky for us, it looks like the only ride that will be closed the ENTIRE time we are there is the Haunted mansion. All of those other closures seem to have one or two days that they'll be open at the beginning or end of our trip. I'm going to have to write all this down so I remember which ones are on which days so I don't run all the way across the park to figure out which ride is closed on which day. LOL

I'm sorry for you about the closures. I hope you guys will be able to work it out to go an extra day. I'm sure you can use your "womanly powers" to twist DH's arm. ;)

My mom is buying is the three day pass. :) She is using one day though.. ug. But that's okay I guess. We will probably go Monday, beach Tues, Sea World Weds, relax or beach Thurs, and Disneyland for sure Friday along with California adventues.

I'll be in the parks on Friday! Not sure what I'm wearing yet (so you can pick me out or whatever), but it's cool to know a DISer is in the parks at the same time I am :)
