I have been wanting to scrap 9/11 but like alot of people I have not been able to find it in me to do-where do you start with something like that. Today was a emotional day as well.
While at Disney I plan on seeing the American Flag that was recovered from the WTT and is now on display at Epcot. I was thinking of using the photos I take to scrap 9/11. But I am not sure that I should have this in my disney vacation album-do you know what I mean? I think it should go in my regular album. Any ideas on this or as to how I should scrap the photos I take?

I was just finishing up last Labor Days pix when it dawned on me that when my son is my age, or a grandfather this will be a part of his history and should really be a part of his book. So I typed out a poem that I thought reflected my feelings, then I wrote him a letter. He is only eight now and I wrote more like I was writing to a eight year old. About how everything stopped, and how I picked him up early from school to hold him close. I wanted him to know my feelings of that day. I wrote how people came together to pray, how we all wore red, white and blue...etc. Then I put them both in his book on a patriotic paper. I didnt post any pics because I didnt have any.

If I were you I would take the flag pictures and do something like I did. Or just put a poem with it. It says enough just like that. I didnt want to make it seem like a memorial, just a way of noting this day occured and affected our lives forever. Someday you will be glad you did.

hope this helps

I also have not done a 9/11 layout. I remember the day and how I was thinking I should be taking pictures of my children on that day and making it part of a layout, but how I couldn't even pull myself from the tv and shock to do even that.

If I were you, I would get my hands on one of those pictures of them raising the flag and then get one of the same flag on display at Epcot. Scrap them with a letter from you. Sounds very moving to me.

I have also wanted to do a 9/11 layout, but haven't been able to yet...I am not sure how to go about it..there are too many graphic images...but I do think I will include some Disney in it, like a postcard I sent DH while there in March...Mickey with an American Flag...

Great idea, Tammy!! I think I might do what you have said, that sounds like a great page for that day...

Grover...still thinking about this...

with both flag images, you could do a then and now. What you were thinking then and how you feel now. I think it could prove to be a sacred piece of memorabilia.

I'm planning on doing an entire scrapbook on 9/11 - as well as an additional one each year on the anniversary.. I have all sorts of photos, newspaper clippings, magazines, etc..

As an aside though, I have a serious dilemna in regards to September 11th of last year as we were actually in Disney World at the time of the attacks.. We stayed on until September 23rd but I have to say that the tone of the vacation changed drastically.. I want to make a scrapbook of that trip but I don't know what (or how much of) the 9/11 news to include.. Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm brand new to scrapbooking and can't wait to get started on things.. Looks like I'll be hanging out on this board from now on! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

i've done a few disney/9-11 pages. we left WDW last year on sept. 10 and were back in november.

when we were there in november, i took photos of the things that had changed since the terrorists attacks. i have photos of people waiting in line to have their bags checked ... and i have many, many pictures of patriotic t-shirts, hats, etc. while we were there, more and more patriotic merchandise was being put out. i took photos of that, too.

my pages are about how the World changed as the world changed -- and about patriotism. i journaled about how shows like the Hall of Presidents felt different, about our conversations with new yorkers in a disney karaoke bar.

in the back of our september 2001 scrapbook... (yes, i scrapbook every trip to orlando, and i even a have a policy against scrapbooking the same disney experience twice.)

anyway, in the back of our september scrapbook, i journaled a page about what it was like to get home from disney at midnight sept. 10 and wake up to sept. 11.

I scrap things that effect us or involve us directly.

For the FACTS about 9/11 -- I bought a book by Newsweek covering photos & stories. I figured they could do a better job preserving history than I. I also kept a few newspapers & magazines that came out right after 9/11.

BUT for the FEELINGS about 9/11 -- I HAD to include it in my Sept 2001 WDW album because we were IN DisneyWorld when it happened. Because of a lack of time, I decided to not do an actual scrapbook, but instead type/print DAILY TRIP REPORTS (some lengthy & with clipart) & inserted them into my 3 ring binder style photo album where appropriate. They are printed on cardstock & laminated through my Xyron. I also have pockets in the album for all the other stuff I wanted to keep.

Let my just say there is ALOT of journaling in the album. And alot of it is the events of 9/11 as they DIRECTLY effected each of our days.
