scrapbooking question

Ok, I scrap .....the scrapbook, the adhesive, a million embellishments.

I went to a "crop" and a lady there had a laptop and was doing all of her scrapping on it.

Can someone explain to me how this is possible? Do any of you do this? I have no idea what she was doing. If you digital scrapbook, in the end, do you print something out and put it in a scrapbook? Sorry if this seems silly......I am just curious.

I have not made one, but have seen them advertised. I am a big Creative Memories fan, but I know there are several different programs. I just saw a CM digital book. You make the pages digitally, send it (upload) via the internet, and a very nice book arrives at your doorstep. It's really very cool. The one I saw was a sport themes book. I would do a few of these, but they will not replace my family albums ~ more for gifts, for me anyway.

Digital are super fast to do - probably 1-2 hours compared to 4 on up for traditional. I also know CM has a new program (maybe not so new, the update is new) to go with their pocket albums and to support their digital albums. My CMC did a demo of this at her croptoberfest. It would be cool to do one album digitally for the holidays (ex. of my kids for both sets of grandparents. I make one, buy two copies). It's probably a smart alternative for those people who never get their pucs off the computer, though unless it was a program the crop leader could help with, I guess I don't get doing that at a regular crop? To each his own...

shutterfly and Kodak and probably every photo place has their own verison.

I'm sure some people also create things on the computer to later print and add to a traditional book. My printer isn't great, so I wouldn't do this.

Sorry, but digital scrapbooking doesn't sound like much fun to me. I really like scrapbooking the "old fashioned" way. I love cutting paper and using my tape runner!! I only use 35mm film, gotta have those pictures to flip through and move around on my desk. We take some digital pictures, but I never use them because for one I can't figure out how to get them from the camera to the computer let alone print them. I bought a digital picture printer for myself so I can just print a couple. That I can handle.

I just don't feel like digital scrapbooking is very "crafty". I would much rather look at a scrapbook that was hand made than printed off the computer. Call me a scrapbook snob I don't care.

I agree, although they are quite nice it just doesn't have that hand crafted feel to it. Kind of "sterile" for the lack of a better word.

I actually digital scrapbook myself. I have lots of friends that do it the conventional way too. They like my work and some of them are actually trying the digital thing out!
But you're right, its whatever the scrapper feels comfortable with!!!
I like digital scrapbooking because its easier for ME. I don't have to cut out paper and make it exact.. I can pick a digital 'paper' and actually turn it into whatever color I want (without spending so much time at the scrapbook store picking out that perfect sheet) And also it cuts back on my spending money! I don't have to buy the right tools or rivets or what have you.

I have to agree so maybe I'm a scrapbook snob too I use digital cameras but I always print off the pictures (I like Olympus and Shutterfly for developing). The one great thing about digital pictures is you can see them and pick and choose which ones to print, and that saves money. But then I scrap them the "old fashioned" way. Digital would be cool for some things but to me it just doesn't seem like as much FUN! I love going to the LSS, finding that perfect sticker or die cut, cutting the paper and pictures, all of it. I like to be hands-on I guess

But, to each her own, it's a personal thing, some people don't even put their pictures in albums, much less scrapbook them (oh the horror!) and that works for them.

I love my digital camera as I don't have to print off all those blrry pictures, and I can get several copies right there of any really good ones so my boys can do their own thing.

I did get a couple of memory books last year from Snapfish, and although its really nice to have the pics neatly captioned (they were for presents rather than for me) you can't add the embellisments and background colours.

This year I'm doing a picfolio for my mum and aunt instead!

I LOVE digital scrapbooking!! Been doing it for about a year or more now. I use photoshop to create my layouts and then get them printed in memory books. They look like professional coffee table books, which is what I like!

I still SB traditionally but I have Lupus and sometimes it's very hard for me to use my hands a lot as I have joint pain. I am 8 months pregnant and have been off meds for a year now and it's been a tough year for me. SB'ing on the computer is much easier for me and I still am able to have that creative outlet but it's easier on my hands.

I made some layouts last year from hubby's family photos and got them printed in small photobooks and gave them out as Christmas presents, everyone loved them!

With the 'photobooks' you can add regular photos and add captions, or you can add your whole finished digital scrapbook page as the picture.. This is what I do and go through mypublisher. If you're a costco member, they give 20% off

Do you need a special printer for the digital scrapbooking or do you send your pages somewhere else to be printed?

I think the digital scrapbooking looks real neat but I always wondered how you get your pages printed.

I haven't printed any of my pages out on my printer, but you could. i just like to get them all in a book from an online place... there's lots of places you can get your pictures to books on the internet. you just send them jpeg's of your digital scrapbook pages and they make the book for you. So pretty much you just pay for the book itself and not all the embellishments, papers, rivets, etc.

These are really cool pages! I do traditional scrapbooking but might like the idea of digital scrapbooking so I don't have to worry about looking for just the right items to add to my pages. What program did you do these with?

There is no right or wrong way to scrapbook....I am traditional, my sil is so excited about digital. I am a CM fan/cons and know their digital books are out 11/1 ~ I am thinking of doing some as gifts, and our GG in Feb for the whole family this way ~ as far as books you hit send on your computer and the hard copy is delivered to you as a book via ups or the post office!

Just keep making and keeping those memories and you can not go wrong!

I agree there isn't a right or wrong way to do it... I do traditional style scrapbooking but LOVE the idea of digi scrapbooking. I've even given it a few trys and found I really really liked it. It's fun, creative, you have UNLIMITED emblellishments, papers, and techniuqes PLUS you don't have to worry about your scrap budget...or running out of a certian supply or product....OR you don't have to worry about not having the right color paper or embelishment...becasue with digital scrapping you can just clik and change it.

I use to be a sole 35mm film user...but soon realized how great digital cameras were. I LOVE mine....and I've found it ends up saveing me a ton of money...and I almost always get the shot I want...because I can take picture after picture until I get the one I want....then just delete the ones I don't want. PLUS you can end up only getting prints of the photos you want to use...so your not wasting your $$ on developing rolls of film that hopefully you'll get a few good shots out of.

As for digital scrapbooking and printing your work. The few digi lo's I've done I've simpley had the page printed at somplace like Costco in a enlarged size (12x18...then crop down the extra ....leaving a nice 12x12 size to slap into my album)

HI everyone!
I am a complete newbie to digital scrapbooking/scapbooking, although have wanted to do it for a long time now. I adore taking photos, and can always be spotted with a camera in my hand.And was longing for a different way of showing my photos of my kids and WDW memories.
I work full time and have plucked up courage to take up an evening course learning Photoshop CS2.
I have to be honest , it was thanks to Timon aka Cass that I have decided to do this. I caught her trip report last year and was totally hooked, then checked out her website and saw the scrapbooking pages I decided that this was something I would love to have a go at. So thank you very much Timon your work is amazing.
I have just discovered the joy of downloading free fonts from the internet , my next question is about all the diferent backgrounds and embellishments.........where do I start?? Do I have to buy a pacakge or can any be downloaded from the internet? I didn't want to pay a lot out yet as I am a complete novice and just learning working with layers on photoshop, so not up to speed as it were yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Melp~ I use photoshop just like Timon does It's the best for me to use, but its all with what you are comfortable with! If you got the program, I would suggest a class to teach you the basics or one of those 'classroom in a book' kind of things. It takes a little getting used to, but once you got it down, the results are limitless
