Does anyone have any suggestions of photographic moments that an avid scrapbooker like myself should not miss?

I already have as ideas:-
golden rides
any "50" signs
each of the C A L I F O R N I A letters
CA by night
disney character dining

Also which shops in the area are best for both disney and other scrapbooking products?

FRUGAL TIPS: not an answer to your question, as Im just now planning our first trip (march 2006!) , but maybe some other new person (new to disney AND scrapbooking!) can use this. I bought a very nice big scrapbook for $15. Plain leather. I hot glued a mickey fridge magnet and the words "dreams come true" (from the disney store clearance for $1.00 each) to the front. It has a slot on the front for a family/charachter photo! I received 6 fat pamplets from AAA that were FULL of awesome color pictures of nearly every character. Carefully cut out these will become fun and free embellishements for the future pages! Also, I bought a batch of disney stickers, 3D things and trims on ebay with free shipping! I also bought scissors that cut in the shape of mickey mose ears. At the crafters warehouse the disney scrapbook alone was $38.00. I have less than $25.00 in the whole thing, and ours will be one of a kind and very fun!

joanne - I am working on the scrapbook for our January trip and I would say you covered them! I took lots of pictures of the 50's for a 50th page. I also took pictures of the family in their GOLD Mickey ears and bought a gold ear Mickey hat postcard and put the title of the page on each ear ("ALL EARS"...but then added "GOLD" between the all and ears....) Plus I took pictures along the way....autopia (plus saved the "drivers license" for the scrapbook page), all the Gold rides, etc. I even did a page about our lack of need for fastpasses and put unused fastpasses on the page.

Each store that sells Disney stuff had scrapbooking stuff. They had one paper set for $15 that had blue and gold papers, Happiest Homecoming stickers, etc. I usually buy postcards to use in my scrapbooks.
ALSO - not too many scrapbookers must stay at the PPH because they seemed to have the most selection when we were there! (Even more than DTD's World of Disney). (OR the PPH had re-stocked)

I scanned in the cover of the kids' autograph book and penny collection book to use in the scrapbook as our kids are autograph and penny collectors (so I have pictures of them acquiring those items...)

HTH!
Debbie

Some of the things I have in my kids boxes...that hopefully before they turn 18 will become scrapbooks...LOL!:

The room key to DLH
A photo of us together from the picture booth outside Crocs bit and bites
the park map
I asked for an extra birthday sticker for her scrapbook and they gave me one with the backing still on it
Fastpasses we didnt use
A few pressed pennies
The menu from our tea with Mary Poppins (this doesnt exist anymore which is sooooooooooooo sad, but Im glad I got to do it with my girl)
The party hat from The Happiest Birthday on Earth! that I went to with each of the boys
The kids pirate hat menu from Blue Bayou
We got a few characters to autograph a postcard with their picture on it and sent them to their siblings, and I saved those
They all kept a journal on their trip and I have that...I thought it would be really cute to have a little snippet for each day in their little 7 year old handwriting about what we did with the pictures from that day.

I have also take a picture of each of them under the Sorcerer's Hat at the DLH, one also of each in front of the star holding that hat up, one of them standing in front of the front door of the DLH, one of them in front of different letters in California (eventually we will have the entire word), and of course the required picture of them on Main Street with the castle in the background. I like that I have a picture of each of them in the same place at the exact same age.

OH - you mentioned the letters outside CA. My kids were drawn like magnets to those...so we have pictures of them in the C and A. Couldn't decide what to do with those...so I have one page with them in the C and it says "give me a C" and on the facing page "give me an A"......All the letters would be too much for me! I bought the postcard that had a good picture of the CALIFORNIA letters and used that.....

I just finished scrapping our trip to Disneyland a few months ago. I bought the book in Disneyland by the photo supply store...it only cost 25.00. They also had great little kits with paper and stickers for 15.00 each. I thought most of the supplies there were very reasonable for a theme park. When I was done with it....oddly enough my favorite pages were the "Waiting For..." pages. I would take pictures of the kids waiting for the parade or fireworks, and F!, and then scrap them with the words "waiting for" over them. They turned out great! I also would take pictures of each persons souveniers and scrap the reciept next to it, that was great for people who wonder how much something was.(If you don't mind telling) Also I thought that this was a good idea for years down the road, seeing that things keep going up in price lol. I can see my kids in 30 years looking through the books and saying "wow it only cost 16.00 for a pair of Mickey gloves back in 2006!" Also..for some reason my 10 year old was fasinated witht the garbage cans and kept taking pictures of random cans....cause they are different in each land! :rotfl2:

A favortie of ours tends to be the Sword in the Stone pictures, trying to take the sword out. Also, the dumbbell in Toontown, showing the kids trying to pull it up, and pretending to be in the jail there. There's always pics of everyone in the crazy hats at DL. I try to take pictures on every ride, even on CA Screamin' I managed to get pictures of my son DURING the ride. There's lots of pictures to take, so either bring a lot of film, or a VERY large memory card!! LOL!

Do you all have one book for each Disney trip, a separate book just for accumulated Disney trips or do you incorporate them into your family book?

13 months after we got back, we're still doing our scrapbook of our 3 week holiday to the US.

We spent 5 days in Disneyland and it takes up half the book (and we only finished that bit a month ago so we're really powering along now! :cool1: )

The one thing we realised we missed out on when we got back was pictures of the ride signs - most rides have unique and interesting signs which make great scrapbook material.

We eventually tracked most of them down through websites, but if you can take pics of signs such as those for GRR, soarin, Bug's Life, Big Thunder, Pooh, Splash etc, you have great scrapbook material.

Also, get as many guide books and maps as you can, so you don't have to worry about cutting them up (and they're free anyway).

Get fastpasses you don't need and keep them

but...Oriental Trading is now carrying scrapbooking things. Their prices beat anywhere by far! They have Disney and Thomas the Tank packages.

I know you can buy wonderful Disney scrapbooks, but I went to JoAnn's last June when they were having their sale and got very retro-mod books for about $6 each. (Everything was half off...) I also got my papers there, but the problem was, they had bits from all the collections instead of full sets of any one.

As far as the "stuff" we collected:

Airplane tickets and boarding passes
Our parkhoppers
Tink popcorn boxes (used to hold big items on the inside of the back cover)
50th Anniversary Napkins
Sand from the beach
Autotopia drivers licenses
the daily park guides
maps of the area, our hotel, and the parks
postcards (more on this...)
small bags with the 50th logo

I found postcards to be in short supply in CA...and not so easy to find at DL either. So, I bought a stock of both when I located them. I brought along postcard stamps. Whenever we had "down" time...waiting for shows or parades...I had my older son make a diary entry on one. I let my younger son dictate to me for his. Each evening on the way out of the park I dropped them in the mail.

These became a big part of the boys' scrapbooks. They function as postcard, complete with the Anaheim postmark and date, but also as mini-journals about our trip.

BTW...each night when we got back to our hotel I popped the kids in bed then did journaling myself. As a result, I have detailed reports of each day that are a big part of the scrapbooks. My thought was that the pictures are nice, but the details that made the trip magic would be lost to time. I'm really glad I took the effort to do this. Next trip I'm going to try to have the kids do more journaling on their own!

BTW, concerning photos: my favorites are the ones taken while the kids were on the rides. I have a great photo of one son up in the air in Dumbo...taken from the Dumbo in front of him. Another favorite is of the two of them up in the air on the AstroOrbiters. I also have wonderful photos of them on both carousels. Carousels seem to be a theme in their vacation photos...I have photos of them on probably twent different carousels. I keep thinking that someday I'm going to do mini-albums of them riding carousels.

Loving all of your ideas, thank you keep them coming. I bought a new Fuji finepix for Christmas, does anyone know what memory cards cost in US or would it be cheaper for me to buy a big one over here? I have a 256mb one but I have a feeling I will be taking a lot of photos!

Dopeyfanatic -- you reminded me of a page I haven't done yet -- but my kids love all the crazy hats at Disney. Rather than buying them all I try to snap a picture of some of their favorites. This year I have enough to do a page which I think I will title "Mad Hatters!"

lntsmom - I totally agree about mid-ride pictures. Some of my favorites are the kids actually riding Dumbo, the 3 of us trying to squeeze into ONE astro-orbiter, on the Orange swingers, etc!!

You guys have great ideas! I have already incorporated our room key into the hotel page -- but will have to use some of these other ideas!

Thanks Joanne for starting this fun thread!

This did remind me of the layouts I have seen of the Mad Hatters, I haven't done it before but definitely on my list

I have a 1GB card. It cost me about $80 at our Costco, but I think it's a little closer to $100 at other stores. It does give me the peace of mind that I can take whatever pictures I want. It depends also on how many megapixels your camera is. You might want to just buy another 256 card, that would give you 512 total. I take some video clips with my camera also which is why I really like the 1gb. There is a Best Buy and Target right down the street from Disneyland. Target is on Harbor and Best Buy is off Harbor on Chapman. Not far away if you decide to get them there. You can check their website for prices!

I think I may like to get some video clips too, I think I will just take the plunge and buy one, thanks for your input

Here is a great site for Disney scrapbook items at a very reasonable price.

We love to take pics with all the characters and get their autograph to put in the SB next to the pic. I take pics of everything though, eating lunch, waiting in lines, on the rides, in front of all the rides & their signs, the gardens and statues, the buildings, the entrance and exit signs on the tunnel/bridge, if any of your kids names start with the CALIFORNIA letters it's fun to take of pic of them. Both of my kids and my husband all start with a C so we took pics of all of them in the C and my daughters name is CIARA so we were able to spell her name by taking a pic in each letter of her name.

Oh wow that is an even better idea than photographing all the letters my daughter is F I O N A fabulous.

When we went to WDW last year on our first couple of days we saw a couple of families in team shirts, we were queing for the monorail one morning and my sister said to me its a bit cheezy isn't and I said no I think it would look good in photos (also for child safety if a child is not too far away they might get bourght back to you quicker) anyway she said to me its got to be done so we went that night and got some dark blue shirts for all of us my nephew then 9 wasnt keen it has to be said, anyway the photos are great of the 5 of us with/without characters and they are the most scrappable ones I find. But one day we were queing for photos at MK and there were 6/7 people in front of us all in shades of tangering, I said to my sister they have to be scrapbookers they looked great. Unfortunately my daughter wears predominantly pink and I due to my size wear predominantly black so some huge compromised will have to take place for us to work that one!
