Before I went to WDW a few weeks ago, I had already decided to try to do my very first scrap book of our vacation. So while at DTD, I made a point to go to the scrap book store to pick up some supplies (up to that point, I hadn't bought anything). I got a REALLY nice scrap book (wood, with a photo frame on the cover), paper, and stickers. I think I spent maybe $75 (the scrap book was expensive, but since it was so nice I didn't mind).

While at JoAnne's yesterday to pick up a gift cert for MIL, I decided to look at the scrapbook section.

Big. Mistake.

A dozen sheets of Disney paper and various packages of stickers later, I make it out of there spending about $38.

Today, I was looking at some of the links and websites mentioned in the "beginer scrapbooking" thread to get ideas for layouts, and thought of a dozen more things I could go back and buy. Not to mention that I want to go and get a really good pair of scissors, croping tools, and various other "tools of the trade".

Over $100 spent so far, and I haven't even started yet. WHY DIDN'T ANYONE WARN ME THAT THIS WAS SO ADDICTIVE AND SO EXPENSIVE!!! ;)

Oh well. Any hobby takes $$$ to get started, I guess. I'm sure it will get better once I've got a stock of supplies, I won't need to buy quite so much in the future (I hope!).

LOL! Yes, once you are all stocked up on the basics, you will discover more and more you will have to buy! I have two crates filled with paper but could not resist the big slab of Christmas paper that was recently on sale at JoAnn's. What am I going to do with a big slab of nothing but Christmas paper? Maybe I will make Christmas albums for the grandparents for next year, LOL!

The problem with scrapbooking, Chicago, is that you find your list of "basics" expands the more you scrap! And then the list of projects you want to do will expand as well, too. Good luck and welcome to scrapbooking!

This is so funny!! Too bad it's not true! I have so much scrapbooking stuff I couldn't ever possibly use it all, but I just HAVE to have it!

WITH you, when you see how much you will NEED!!

Ready . . . I'm in over $4,000 . . and I've only been scrapping since July 2003. (How I know this is my DH has all my scrapbooking debit purchases catagorized on the on-line checking. . . WOOPS!! Should have withdrawn cash!!! Too late now!!) I just went out LAST WEEK and spent $75 at my LSS, just on paper and a couple packages of embellishments/stickers . . . ALL DISNEY!! The new stuff is SOO COOL!!! I have so much "stuff" it's not funny, but somehow, it's never enough!!

Anyway, good luck staying out of the scrapbooking stores!! :cloud9:

I feel your pain! I have had scrapping supplies for a few years now (bought a bunch of stuff from my friend who was a CM consultant), but never used it. Just getting back from our trip last week (land and sea), I decided I wanted to scrap the trip so I took over 400 pictures and bought two of the kits. Now I am sitting here having to go back to the store (the 50% coupon I have for JoAnns is calling to me), because I need MORE of everything!

Cheers - here's to a new addiction!

One good way to save a little $$ on tools is to go crop at your LSS (local scrap store). You can use their punches, die cut system, ect without having to invest all at once for the those items. Since it is so expensive when you first start having to buy cardstock, stickers, embellishments....etc

Ahh but its a good way to spend money, just think of all the years of enjoyment for you, your kids and future generations :)

At least that is what I keep telling myself ;)

Um, yeah, just keep telling yourself that okay!!!!!! :earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2:

I can't walk into a scrapbook store WITHOUT buying something, I just can't. It's an obsessive thing, I swear. I'm so proud of myself when I walk out and have only spent $50!!!!! ROFL :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

I have papers that I didn't need at the time but I'm sure I'll need them later!!!! ROFL

Have fun

Collecting supplies is part of the hobby, isn't it?? ::yes::

Then comes the need for a scrapbook ROOM to store all the supplies and close the door to the mess I always make!

I have no creative gene and I don't want to buy all the tools. The store at WDW had nothing except a bunch of stickers and kits so I searched for fully assembled pages at Scrapbooking top 50 and found mousescrapbookpages.com. They sell pages that are already done. There's room for photos and jornals. they're beautiful and I had a scrapbook of our December 2004 trip to DVC's OKW in a couple of hours.

I too know how addictive shopping for scrapbooking supplies can be!! I have only been scrapping for less than a year but seem to somehow spend tons of money (no telling how much exactly!!) but I too can't get out of the LSS or craft store (or Walmart for that matter) without at least looking at the scrapbook stuff. It seems that once you have everything you need you will eventually need something else or something new!! I have done more shopping for supplies than actually completing layouts!!

:rotfl: :rotfl:

we have all been there -
and I am sorry to say that it usually doesn't get any better - there is always SOMETHINGnew that you just HAVEto have!

:grouphug: Welcome to our world...

the way I look at it is I could have worse- and more expensive habits like smoking, gambeling, or drugs :flower1:

I remember thinking the same thing when I first started. I just had to have the biggest CM kit that they made which cost me almost $200 right off the bat! Not to mention albums, more stickers, paper, markers, punches...oh goodness!

But, it DOES get better! Now that I have my basics...I just have to replenish what I use and occasionally buy new items. Usually when I go to my local scrapbook/sticker store, I walk out the door spending less than $20 and get a ton of cool stuff. There have been a few times where I've spent more but usually it's about $10-$15 or so per trip. That's not too bad considering that the memories you're creating are lifelong and priceless (wow, that sounded like a commercial, huh?)

I was really disappointed in the scrapbooking supplies available at the Marketplace. Each visit I go back thinking they will have gotten a clue. Seems to me they're missing the boat. I thought it'd be one stop shopping for all things scrapbooking and Disney. I stand in the middle of it and think this can't be it! Haven't been since New Year's 2004 -- have they improved?

I've gotten loads of items at great prices when QVC has their craft day, which, by the way, starts 12midnight on January 19th!!!! WooHoo, actually took off work that day! :earseek: DH is like, "oh no"! Oh well, there could be much worse addictions. :earboy2:

Ah yes...less expensive once you have the basics. Wonder when we finally accumulate all of the basics?

Deb

Hee Hee!!! After a year and a half . . . still "accumulating"!!! :cool1: GO ME!!

I just had to reply after seeing that you bought the wood scrapbook. I too bought the 4 park wood scrapbook with the 5x7 picture cutout on the cover. Have you started to make any pages? If you haven't, you will soon find out that they are a really odd size 11x11 5/8. You can't use standard 12x12 pages or protectors either because they stick out the edge and the holes do not line up. I called Disney on this because I needed more pages for my book and they referred me to collectedmemories.com. I was told that this is the only place you can get refills. I contacted my three local scrapbook stores and they all said that they think Disney makes them odd on purpose. They all said that not only is collectedmemories.com the only place to get refills for these, Disney does not sell refills at their scrapbook store for their own books! All of my locals have tried to get some in stock (and were all told they they couldn't stock them ) because alot of people apparently end up buying Disney scrapbooks and then up with the same problem. I just ordered refills yesterday, so I will report back and let you know for sure if they fit.
