In case you care ( ) its the 100th anniversary of scouting. As my sons troop has just celebrated 75 years I've got a ton of scouting-related photos to scrap. Any good sources for scout-type stuff? (Must post to the UK)

The Oriental Trading Company has some scouting scrapbooking supplies. Although I have no idea what shipping would cost from them.

You can go the the BSA national website and shop at
their online shop. They have a lot of scrapbook supplies
for both Cub and Boy Scouts and various scouting activities
and events. They are by K & Co, also another company
that has a nice selection is called it takes two.

I have used most of the items in these lines and love them.
Another place to check is Ebay!

Good luck and congrats on 75 years of Scouting history.

Hey! I was just going to post about Scouting!

To answer your question I know K & C has scouting papers and kits. They also have Scout Albums too! you might want to try their website. If theydon't ship to the US let me know and I'll ship it for you. No problem.

My son just became an Eagle Scout and I need to know how I should display his awards. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tips, I'll chek them out. So often postage to the UK is more than what you buy! Ebay has served me well before thgough.

We don't have Eagle Scouts here - what are the awards like? Unless they are big trophies I'd get one of those frames that can take a "thick" artwork - I bought one each for my DS (before I started scrapping!) and they created a collage each to commemorate their trips to DLP.

As DS(13) moves up I take his badges off his old tops and sew them onto his camp blanket - this also has other badges like swimming, canoeing and camp commemorative ines.

The actual eagle scout award consists of:
the badge which is worn on the uniform pocket until
the age of 18 and then it may be worn on the adult uniform
but is converted to the red/white/blue square knot.

Then there is the eagle medal which is about 3 inches long
and is a red/white/blue ribbon with a pewter eagle.

I would not frame the medal or the badge until your son is older.
My son is under 18 so he is still wearing his eagle badge - proudly,
they also wear the medal for court of honors, eagle ceremonies, etc.

There is a shadow box frame that is sold that has an insert
for the medal and the official eagle scout certificate.
It can be ordered from any council office or national supply.
But it is a spendy item. I plan to just get a shadow box for my son.

MazdaUK I like your idea about the blanket. Do you let him actually use it or is it for display purposes? I have all of my sons in baseball card holders right now.

I'll have to check out the scout house. We just moved to a new area so I'll have to look it up.

He uses the blanket when he goes camping, and sometimes to wrap up in if he's not well and watching TV - it goes in the washing machine so its quite safe! I like the baseball card album idea though.

Why is the UK considered a high-risk area I wonder, or Norway? I can understand Brazil!

Now I'm all undecided - so much to choose from! I notice you don't have Beaver Scouts (age 6-8)

There is a patch blanket in the scout catalog that is a red fleece
with the scout symbol on it, I bought one for each of my son's
but have yet to sew on the badges.

The Scouting program is as follows:
1st grade - Tiger Cubs - attend with an adult
2nd Grade - Wolf
3rd Grade - Bear
4th grade - 1st Year Webelos
5th Grade - 2nd Year Webelos

Boy Scouts is boys who have earned the arrow of light,
are age 11 or have completed the 5th grade.
They can remain in Boy Scouts until the age of 18
at which time they can serve as adult leaders.

There is also the venture program
for boys and girls ages 14 - 21.

Melanie

We have Beavers (6-8) Cubs (8-10, or 7 if your troop doesn't have a Beaver colony) and Scouts (10-14), with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides for girls. Then there is Venture Scouts for the older ones (which is mixed) but I don't know if they still have Rangers for the older girls.

My boys were fascinated at Kennedy Space Centre to see how many astronauts had been through scouting.

Thanks all! There's some good sites I've added to my list, and I also found a bunch of stuff I can download on the UK Scouting website (as our badges are different) which I'll print off and cut out. Still having trouble with the vellum - any suggestions for nice sharp prints? I'm doing a scrap class for the Beavers in Feb and I thgouht it would be nice to give each of them a couple of Beaver-themed bits to stick on their pages.

Hi all, it has been awhile since I had time to browse the board but had a few minutes and found this thread when I popped in.

My son became an Eagle Scout in 2005 and I used the K & Co Eagle Scout album to scrap photos of the Court of Honor, most letters of congratulations and cards he received. His official certificate and letters from president we had framed for hanging on the wall. Since I obviously didn't have that done before his Court of honor the letters and certificates that had been received we put in a series of VERY inexpensive frames from the dollar store to protect them.

MazdaUK - hope you found what you're looking for. On the girls side of things I will be traveling to your part of the world in June with 5 senior Girl Scouts (comparable to your Guides) and 2 other adult leaders.
