I am doing the Scout Swap in a month or so and have been thinking about groups. So far, this is what I figured we would have.

Girl Scouts - Brownies
Girl Scouts - Juniors
Girl Scouts - 11 to 17
Girl Scouts - General

Cub Scouts
Boy Scouts

Can anyone think of anything else that we should have? I didn't include Daisys in the Girl Scout group because I didn't know if we had enough demand. I don't mind adding that group.

I was thinking groups of 6 for each to start with a second group in any of the categories if needed.

Thoughts? Questions? Input? Please share.

Thanks,
Shauna

I would be interested. I have a DS who is a Cub Scout and I have many, many pictures to scrap. :) Elements would probably work best for me. Thanks!

Hoooraaaaaaaaaay! I've been waiting for this - we don't get scout stuff over here

Elements would be good for me, with generic sort of "on my Honour" and "be prepared" stuff. I've got one scout and one beaver, but as he will be a cub come November I'm happy to go with that and hold them for his investiture, as I know you have something different for the under-8s. Put me down for a slot for each please!

Question on colours - both cubs and scouts over here have forest green shirts/sweatshirts, their neckerchiefs relate to their pack (ours are blue edged with gold - yellow not metallic) -are yours the same? Or do we just go for outdoorsy blue/green/brown combos?

Here Cub Scouts are blue with neckerchiefs that match the rank (orange for Tigers (grade 1), Yellow for Wolfs (grade 2), Light Blue for Bears (grade 3) and a red/blue/yellow plaid for Webelos (grades 4 and 5). They wear Dark blue shirts. Boy Scouts wear Tan shirts. As my DS is a Tiger, I don't know if there are neckerchiefs or colors, but the scrapbook stuff you can buy is tan and red.

That being said, I'd be happy with anything. I know our Tiger motto is "Search Discover Share" and we have had a Blue and Gold dinner and Pinewood Derby. ANything would probably work. :)

Beavers are bright blue, the neckerchiefs are royal blue so blues generally work for me. Its the symbols we can't get here :headache: which makes scouting pages a bit of a pain!

Depending on due dates, etc. I might be interested in the Girl Scout (Brownie and Junior) things. I would be interested in Daisy things, too, if you decide to go with it.

Have fun with that! Ours got rained out.

I am taking my Juniors camping in the woods for the first time on June 2. We've done the sleepover and backyard camping trip and I survived. We'll have to see how the camping thing goes.

Are these going to be for the centenary of scouting or just general, BTW?

I was thinking general. I have three years of backlog to catch up on for my GS album and would love some cute elements to use for that.

I'm glad its not just me with a backlog :rotfl: I'm up toDS(7) learning to walk:rotfl2:

I know this is a little off topic.... forgive me.

I was looking for other scout parents to discuss "swaps" that will be created and traded at cub scout day camp. The theme this year is Dinosaurs. The boys will need items they can pin to a baseball cap and trade throughout the week.

If you have any ideas or can point me in a different direction, it would be appreciated.

Thanks pirate:

Sounds great fun! I wish our boys did stuff like that! You'll probably find more help/ideas at the general crafting thread at the top of this section - things like badges, keyrings etc I suppose.

I did buy DS(7) dinosaur-themed shrinkles once, and I imagine Fimo could also be useful:goodvibes

They're not scouting things, but craft supplies.

Shrinkles are those sheets of plastic (or whatever;) )which you colour in/draw on then bake in the oven so they shrink down tiny. DS(7) had a set with pictures of dinosaurs, but I've seen lots with other pictures - fairies, soccer, clowns etc. - and you can also get blank sheets which you could use to trace a simple dinosaur picture. They used to be called Shrinkydinks - I don't know if they have a different name in US.

Fimo is a polymer clay - it comes in bright colours and you can use it to make things, which you then bake in the oven so they set hard. Disneydork on the craft thread makes amazing jewellery in the shape of cakes etc.. You could get a few packs and make dinosaur badges - craft shops should sell packs of badge pins.

My son will start cub scouts in the fall - first grade

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I don't get out much in the crafting world!

Have an awesome day (or evening in your case).

Great idea thanks for offering to host. I'll look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to kick this off.
